The “I Like Book” Keeps Thoughts of Love Alive

“Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind.” Had Rudyard Kipling been one of the greatest psychiatrists of our time, he could not have distilled the essence of communication any more clearly. The words we use in everyday life are vital to building solid relationships with those around us.

Relationships are the concrete foundation of every aspect of our lives: from doting parents to the tender grandchild, our interactions with the ones we love create the present and develop glorious futures. The vitality of any relationship is dependent on communication, both verbal and non-verbal. While a smile can warm a heart or set someone at ease, nothing surpasses the importance of kind words. However, our time-strapped lives have a death-grip on our schedules, so even the most committed miss opportunities to express love and appreciation to the ones who matter most.

Getting the Message Out

Our fast-paced society does not enhance family relationships — it instead typically tears them apart through grinding work schedules, a laissez-faire attitude towards the family, and an emphasis on the temporal. Entrepreneurial couple Meredith and Lance Looney recognized the necessity of truly endearing, sincere family communication at the start of their marriage.

Meredith noted that, early in their relationship, the couple understood the vital need to communicate how valuable the other person truly is in order to develop an enduring and lasting rapport: “How can we keep the love alive? How can we keep the spark going?” The answer to these questions turned out to be surprisingly simple: tell your loved ones about what makes them special to you.

Later, as the parents of two growing boys, they further developed their ideas on the most important way to nurture a close, joyful family life by letting their loved ones know that they are important, welcomed, and loved. With this in mind, the I Like Book was conceived and published in 2010.

Featured on the television program “Good Morning Texas” and hailed at celebrity bashes like the Pre-Golden Globes Celebrity Gifting Event, those in the know have latched on to one of the simplest but most enduring ways to connect with the loved ones in their lives: the I Like Book. The book is like no other: it builds iron-clad family bonds through a combination of old-fashioned letter writing and cutting-edge Twitter-like communication skills.

The I Like Book for children is available in four soft pastels, while the couples version is available in classic black. Each book boasts a simple design and can be put into practice immediately. With its open calendar format, grandparents, parents, kids, and couples can quickly jot down and share the precious moments that weave themselves into the fabric of their lives. Does your daughter’s smile wash away your cares after a rotten day at work? A few simple lines inscribed in her I Like Book preserves that special thought forever. Do you love the way your spouse sings? Nothing keeps the love alive like writing positive affirmations. Not only does the I Like Book allow for spontaneous sharing, but it also creates a personal and treasured family heirloom.
