ABC Kids Expo - Las Vegas, Nevada (9/13/09 - 9/16/09)

With miles of aisles, filled with juvenile products, the ABC Expo was a buyer’s (and editor’s) challenge. Does anyone really see more than 1,000 products at ABC? Leesa Valentino and David Gaunt from The Giggle Guide® were on the prowl throughout the show. Here are just a few of the products that we discovered from Baby Elephant Ears, Oxo, Teamees, Baby Magoo, Baby Sherpa, Abiie, BabbaCo and Lipper International

Looking into the trusting eyes of a baby, it’s hard to imagine anything more pure. Parents today are looking for the best, most wholesome products for their precious new addition, and that includes toys! With more and more mainstream toys being recalled for toxic paints or harmful components, many parents are turning to the basics to keep their children safe and happy. What better way do parents have to protect and stimulate their children than to consider the tactile delight of pure, organically inspired plush toys? The Giggle Guide® looks at four companies that meet these needs: Apple Park, miYim. Sigikid, and Simply Fido.

Looking to warm a child’s heart? Look no further than CuddleBudz™ by Roman Inc.

These adorable plush stuffed animals can soothe, relax and comfort even the most inconsolable child. With their unique lavender scented infusion, which is trigged when heated in the microwave, these lovable creatures are perfect for use while traveling or to calm a sick, achy child.

New restrictions from the CPSC passed last year with the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act have caused confusion and controversy in the children’s industry. While many agree and gladly comply with stricter lead and testing requirements, the broad language in the legislation could put small operations in a tight spot.

Recently CPSIA has turned its attention to resellers in the children’s industry including consignment stores and garage sales.

One new brand generating a lot of buzz in the marketplace is Tangerine Sky, the creation of Jeff Dodge and his parents John and Judy Dodge. The new collection addresses what the Dodges see as an unmet need in the marketplace — fashionable yet age appropriate apparel for girls and their parents who are more discriminating than ever in their shopping habits. “Our research found that girls are developing a sense of style at a very early age,” said Jeff Dodge, Director of Sales and the new dad of a little girl.

Hospital Room Crafts was born after a daughter’s 9-year long battle with Leukemia. After spending years in bleak and drab hospital rooms, Monica Lyman wanted to brighten things up. These beautifully designed crafts entertain and delight. Kids are not meant to be cooped up, let alone confined to a hospital bed. These wonderful crafts come in ready-made kits and let kids be kids, even if mobility is restricted!

Lately we’ve been trying to create new ways to have our designs on colored clothes instead of just our traditional white garments. We’ve been experimenting for a couple weeks now and we might have finally reached the final result!

ABC Kids Expo - Las Vegas, Nevada (9/13/09 - 9/16/09)

The Giggle Guide’s Leesa Valentino and David Gaunt have been walkin’ and talkin’ throughout the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas. With over one million square feet of exhibit space, our four feet are barkin’. We saw miles of product during the four day event and are pleased to report that buyers are spending money and exhibitors seem upbeat. Lots of positive energy!

Special thanks to The World Market Center, Vegas Kids, for inviting us to be guest speakers for their seminar series. Our presentation “Web Sites: Optimize to Maximize” on September 15th, was a big success.

World Market Center Las Vegas announced plans to launch another ancillary market – “Vegas Kids” during June 13-16, 2010. This new event will run concurrent with the 2010 “Gift + Home” Market.

According to Philip McKay, World Market Center Las Vegas’ Senior Vice President, this new show will pull together exhibitors and buyers across a broad spectrum of interrelated industries, namely nursery and youth furniture, juvenile products, toy and game, children’s books, children’s apparel, and gift.

Fat Brain Toys focuses on open-ended educational toys that get kids playing and thinking. Fat Brain is a family-owned company, started by Web Designer Mark Carson and his wife Karen in 2002. Their son had received a GeoMag set of magnetic building pieces as a gift. When Mark realized how difficult it was to find on the Internet, the Carsons developed a plan to make these types of toys available to more kids, and Fat Brain Toys was born!
