KidShow - Las Vegas, Nevada (8/31/09 - 9/2/09)

Kudos to KidShow for hosting another great trade event at Bally’s, Las Vegas. Denise Raeside, and her entire team, work hard to create a welcoming, relaxed and friendly shopping environment for manufacturers, designers and retailers to meet, greet and get down to business for Spring 2010. KidShow’s traditional perks include a free breakfast, lunch and snacks every day. It’s especially nice that the dining tables are round and large so vendors and retailers can visit and get to know each other in a relaxed, comfortable setting.

Here are a few exhibitors that really captured our attention at the event: Starting Green,Lexi Kate Designs, Princess Teeza, Jen’s Ideas, and Cacamamie.

The apparel mega-show opened August 31 with a Disney Surprise Event in the Grand Lobby for Tea and a Mad Mad parade of licensing stars. For the adults, there was definitely a mixture of business and pleasure, with evening parties planned featuring Black Eyed Peas, an invitation-only concert by Kenny Chesney introducing his new Blue Chair Bay line, and S.L.A.T.E. Party at Hard Rock!

ABC has been the alpha-buzz at children’s apparel and gift shows over the last few years. There is interest, anticipation and a little mystery among children’s apparel manufacturers about the ABC Kids Expo, September 13 – 16 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. (http://www.theabcshow.com) I get asked more questions about the ABC Show than any other. Since JPMA discontinued its trade show a couple years ago, the ABC Kids Expo is currently the only national trade event designed especially for the juvenile products industry.

Rebecca Finell, founder of Boon, shares her “Road to Success” with The Giggle Guide®. Editorial Director David Gaunt recalls, “I remember very well the impact her student design, The Frog Pod made at the JPMA show several years ago. I met her among a group of competitive student designers, and by the next show she was a successful corporate executive, building one of the most exciting new children’s brands in years. I’ve seen a lot, having attended juvenile product shows since 1979, and Boon has been one of the best, and most well-deserved success stories. She understood function and design, plus the importance of brand image.” Her story is a great example of the possibilities of staying true to one’s business vision and being willing to take the risks necessary to succeed.
