Children's Club - New York, New York (8/2/09 - 8/4/09)

Children’s Club, representing the hottest trends in children’s fashion for Spring/Summer 2010, opened on Sunday at Pier 94 in New York City. As I made my way around the spacious show floor, I was thrilled to see that several exciting new companies have recently joined the Children’s Industry. I was also happily surprised to see quite a few established and loved icons returning to exhibit at Children’s Club after many years of absence. Here is a peek at some of the exhibitors participating in the show. A full show report will soon follow!

Bubble - Kids Trade Show - New York, New York (8/2/09 - 8/4/09)

The August Bubble Show opened on Sunday at beautiful Cedar Lake in Chelsea. The folks at Bubble did a phenomenal job in choosing a contemporary venue to showcase cutting-edge exhibitors. Upon scanning the show program, the first thing that stood out to me was the number of new companies exhibiting. It is exciting and encouraging to see so many new companies entering the industry during these tough economic times. Traffic was brisk on Sunday and many orders were being written. Enjoy the photos and check back for a full show report!

Origin of the month’s name: The month August is named after Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus, Julius Caesar’s grandnephew. After Augustus defeated Marc Antony and Cleopatra and became emperor of Rome, the Roman Senate decided that he should have a month named after him. Welcome August!

Celebrity Baby Birthdays in August:

  • Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt, born August 5th 2001. Maddox is the son of superstars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

With August fast approaching us, you start to think, “Where did July go?” Or more so, “Where did summer go?” We tend to be so wrapped up in work, family, our children’s events and finding time for ourselves in the mix of it all that time flies by us. But there is still plenty of time left in August to get in fun, cheap activities you haven’t done yet this summer while still enjoying the sun and warm weather.

Monica Willis, an Australian mum of two, now has two kids AND two kids’ stores growing in Brooklyn! With a background in fashion and props for TV and commercial advertising, she was inspired to open a children’s shop when she realized her comunity needed one. The Giggle Guide™ Retail Reality series asks Claire the hows, whens, whats and what-ifs that have made her Corduroy Kid stores a great place in the neighborhood.

I reviewed a beautiful little online store called Brea’s Baby Boutique a bit earlier this month. The owner is a wonderful mother of two girls and does a really wonderful job with her business as well. I just love the tutu’s and petti skirts that she sells, they are extremely charming and a bunch of fun! Anyway, she has just recently wrote a post on her blog about No Slippy Hair Clippy and it is really terrific. She uses our products on her own two daughters, a toddler and a new born, and she has nothing but good things to say. Here is an excerpt:

With the trade show season starting, The Giggle Guide™ will be busy publishing many Trade Show Reports. Co-founder/Editor Leesa Valentino and/or I will be attending the following shows: ENK Children’s in August and October, Bubble NY, KidShow Las Vegas, MAGICKids, ABC Kids Expo, Kids on 6 LA Market Week, Dallas Market, and Vegas Kids at World Market Center in Las Vegas.

Overall sentiment country-wide is that trade shows from Atlanta to Chicago to Dallas are trending down in both foot traffic and written sales. But can’t we all use some good news? Here it is: Buyers, reps and manufacturers are still attending trade shows, planning for the future and working together to make it through a tough retail environment.

If it wasn’t enough that Larry Birkhead is raising a beautiful vibrant little girl all on his own… now he proves to be a very gracious and thoughtful man as well. Even in the midst of his hectic schedule, he took the time to write, Mary Lenore of BopStar-PR, a thank you letter for the No Slippy Hair Clippies that were sent to him for Dannielyn.

Mary,

Isla Fisher, the Australian born actress, most well known for her hilarious role of Rebecca Bloomwood in this years blockbuster “Confessions of a Shopaholic” was seen walking in West Hollywood this past week with her daughter Olive. Olive is just now 1 1/2 years old and her father is the always funny Sacha Baron Cohen best known for his comedy “Borat”. Olive Cohen is seen here snuggling up to her Mommy wearing one of our clippies.

The always precious Dannielynn Birkhead (daughter of the late Anna Nicole Smith and Larry Birkhead) was seen playing at a park in Beverly Hills this past weekend with her daddy. Some adorable shots of the two playing on a swing were found on Celebrity Baby Scoop. She is shown wearing a No Slippy Hair Clippy Whitney Princess - 3 ½ inch Princess Bow®.

Doesn’t she look like the perfect little Hollywood starlet with those pink glasses? What a doll.
