Like all things whimsical and important, Eggkids started with a dream. A dream to create a character that would make people feel happy; someone who would warm hearts. Someone who smiles at everyone and makes them smile back. First on the scene was Erik the Elephant, strong and loyal. He spreads his love generously and shares wisdom and happiness. He’s now part of a 25-character family living and smiling on clothes and accessories designed for children up to 6 years old. Erik, Albin the Monkey, Anton the Anteater and Maja the Cat are just some of the animal friends that come from the big wild world, where designer Hans-Jörgen Hansson finds his inspiration.

The ability to change and evolve is integral to the survival of any organism. This foundational truth of biology can be applied equally to business development. A business owner needs to keep their eyes on the changing current of the market, keeping up with trends in both style and marketing. They also need to look for ways in which they can help their company stand out in a sea of businesses that may be similar. In 2012, New-York based children’s clothing maker Jaxxwear decided to revamp their line. The updated line focused on the art prints that were in high demand from customers, but added fresh silhouettes and new fabrics, and the changes paid off.

Dsenyo, an ethical fashion and fair trade accessories company, will launch a new expanded collection for moms, toddlers and babies available to consumers in April 2015. Building off the brand’s best-selling “Little Friends” handmade dolls, Dsenyo is already familiar with the children’s market and saw the potential for product expansion. The fair trade brand will now offer an assortment of colorful printed apparel and accessories for infants and toddlers. Items include a Baby & Toddler Sun Dress, Reversible Pinafore, Pocket Pants, Pleated Overalls, Collared Rompers, Bloomers, Headbands, and Hats in an assortment of colors and prints.

La Lovie is one of a number of new children’s product companies that focus on the artistic aspects of their products, as well as using eco-friendly materials. La Lovie stands out because it offers both clothing and dolls in fabrics and styles that complement each other for a natural and stylish look. Their products make wonderful gifts for baby showers and birthdays.

In the past few years, there’s been a trend toward the homemade look when it comes to children’s fashions. A quick browse through Pinterest or a peek at what’s popular at kids’ boutiques will show that these days parents are all about craft-inspired brands. These brands are often up-and-coming business that offer quirky, fun clothing that draws on the crafting tradition, using mixed fabrics, eye-catching colors, and innovative details that set them apart from the mass-manufactured crowd. One such designer is Erin Murphy of Everbloom, a line of clothing aimed at girls ages 3 months through 4 years.

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.” - John Muir. Clothing for children often follows a simple map: primary colors and simple designs. Holly Willis, creator of Eddy and Scout, charts a different course with unique textiles, colors and fit. Born from a need for clothes to fit her own lanky child while still offering uber-soft textiles, a sense of whimsy and quality design, Eddy and Scout has became a line for that skinny, tall kid on their own adventure.

KidShow - Las Vegas, Nevada (2/16/15 - 2/18/15)

Buyers at the KIDShow Vegas, held February 17-19th at Bally’s, were able to discover lots of new exhibitors and brands, as well as proven favorites that always support this show because they can rely on it to come through with new doors, plus opportunities to enhance existing retailer relationships. The event’s hospitality and buyer-friendly atmosphere is always welcoming. After attending every KIDShow for almost 15 years, I was particularly pleased to meet new people that charged my professional battery for the health of the children’s fashion industry, and new brands with something both worthy to offer and be discovered by specialty stores looking for their next buzzworthy line.

Safety is a major concern of anyone involved with kids. They need to be visible out on bikes and scooters, in storms and any time decreased visibility could cause a problem. i Rock the Block brings stylish rain jackets that combine fashion, function and safety. Jackets are comfy to wear, hooded and well-fitted with a soft-touch waterproof shell that keeps the kid inside snug and dry. The fully-lined interior adds an extra touch of warmth. Add to it high-visibility safety trims that can be seen for up to 600 feet away.

Babies do lots of things well –– among them is growing fast. Blink and the baby who fit that outfit perfectly has totally grown out of it. The answer is adjustable clothes which comes to fruition via Posheez by American Posh. The line is the brainchild of Denisa Dragu who was unable to find a quality one-piece that would fit her long, slim newborn. Before you could say “perfect fit,” she came up with premium quality clothes that can be tweaked so body and outfit actually come together perfectly.

While most companies are now making the switch to more eco-friendly products, Babysoy has been environmentally conscious since its inception. Their entire newborn clothing line is made from soybean pulp, adding very minimal impact to the environment when processed. The fabric that’s produced is incredibly soft, breathable, and completely free of chemicals. This isn’t your average all-natural clothing line; it’s the ultimate in sustainable living.
