UviCube Uses UV light to Help Keep Baby Safe from Germs

UviCube will be showcasing UV light technology at the ABC Kids Expo this September. UviCube is the first product of its kind in the United States to use UV light to disinfect baby bottles, mobile phones, electronics, toys and other personal and household items. The UviCube founders will be demonstrating the new product at the ABC Kids Expo at booth #4625 on September 7-10, 2014.

Primarily designed to dry and disinfect baby bottles, UviCube houses a highly reflective inner chamber that allows UV light to be reflected in all directions, effectively killing 99.9% of exposed germs with the touch of a button. UviCube does not use boiling water or hot steam, avoiding the risk of burns, cleanup and waste. Items can also be dried and stored inside the UviCube, so no additional counter space is needed until ready for use. Additionally, objects that cannot be exposed to moisture or heat, such as mobile phones, certain toys and electronics, can now also be disinfected using UviCube.

Founder Autumn Colayco became highly conscious about protecting against germs after her first child spent the first two weeks of her life in the NICU for an infection. After searching for devices and gadgets to protect her child from germs, she came across UV products mainly from Asia that disinfected bottles and other baby items. She decided to develop a product specifically for the U.S. market that was familiar to use and understand, was validated by a reputable laboratory in the U.S., and met all U.S. federal, state and local safety and standards and compliance.

“I needed a product like UviCube,” says Autumn, Co-Founder of UviCube. “I wanted to protect my baby from germs that live on surfaces of objects that they interact with every day. That included baby bottles, but also pacifiers, toys and my husband’s mobile phone. UviCube is the easiest way to disinfect those things my baby loves, allowing me to spend that saved time with my family. We all face challenges as parents in deciding how best to protect our children, and I hope UviCube can help give parents that peace of mind when it comes to keeping their baby safe from germs.”

Autumn enlisted the help of her husband and fellow entrepreneurs from Southern California in the fields of electronics, manufacturing and medical devices. UviCube showcased its first prototype at the 2013 ABC Kids Expo’s Invention Connection and received a wide range of helpful and positive feedback, which has been incorporated into shaping the final product.

Plans are in development to attend other national consumer shows, such as Big City Moms Biggest Baby Shower and PLUSH, in addition to beginning the development of a travel size UviCube.
