i attended the first 7 W NYC Baby & Kids Fair earlier this week. I have been to so many trade shows over the past 30 years, but I have never attended a children’s trade event that offered as many perks to both buyers and exhibitors. Congratulations to the 7 W sales and management team, as well as the entire staff of the building, for hosting a successful and first-class premier event.

What’s the perfect environment for nasty germs to invade? A kid’s world! Young children are frequently exposed to harmful germs as they play in close quarters at day cares, schools and playgrounds. Fluctuations in temperature, dry indoor heating, lack of a good night’s sleep, and a poor diet can also contribute to childhood sick days. Believing that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” The Giggle Guide™ prescribes these germ fighters to help families in the battle against the flu, while giving retailers a healthy sales boost: SquidSoap, Pipila, Crane and PureNight.

No matter how vigilant parents may be, kids are bound to get sick from time to time. Fortunately, there are many healthful products available to keep little ones comfortable and on the fast track to wellness. The Giggle Guide™ prescribes Boogie Wipes, Cleanoz, and homeopathic remedies from Heel and Hyland’s to help parents “make everything better.” Stocking these practical items in your store, especially during flu season, can also be a terrific tonic for weak sales.

Wee Ones is pleased to launch its new Utubia Tearless Kids Shampoo collection of 15 mixable scents inspired by such sugary confections as Orange Creamsicle, and root beer float. “Shampoos can be mixed together to create fun scents,” says co-creator Susan Barton. “For example, strawberry plus cupcake equals strawberry shortcake.” Barton, a Wee Ones Account Executive, explains that she and a partner began designing Utubia two-in-one shampoo-conditioner line six years ago, to make washing hair a more inventive, interactive process for kids.

American families are busier than ever, so it’s often long after the groceries are unpacked that mom or dad realize they forgot to replace the toothbrushes… again! Help them out by placing kid’s toothbrushes near the checkout. Specialty retailers may brush off this idea as inappropriate for their product mix, but unique toothbrushes from Live-Right, Benedent Corporation, Dr. Fresh and Preserve are exceptional finds that make customers smile! Dentists recommend that toothbrushes be changed every 3 months, so dental care products, especially those with impulse-buy appeal, can be a great way to brighten profits.

With the family movie “Tooth Fairy” opening this week, we’re pleased to present a Green Scene gleam on the best natural toothpastes for kids. Mainstream toothpastes are often chock full of artificial ingredients and flavors, and knowledgeable parents are searching for healthier alternatives. It’s only natural to turn to toothpastes by Tom’s of Maine, Burt’s Bees, and Weleda. These winning products are made with safe, flavorful ingredients found in nature, so they promote healthy teeth and smiles without exposing children to artificial additives. The Tooth Fairy is surely waving her wand in approval!

The Chicago Market’s Living and Giving Show, January 21st – 27th, is set to showcase the latest in children’s fashion and innovative children’s products. The show will also feature a variety of free seminars on current business topics ranging from strategies for growth to incorporating Fair Trade products in retail. In anticipation of a great show, The Giggle Guide™ would like to shine the limelight on products from Folkmanis, Bitty Block, Sophie the Giraffe, and Lifefactory.
