A kid, just like you….

Pete, at her special plate.

When you were growing up, did your mom ever tell you she hoped you had a kid just like you? My mom used to say it all the time. She also said that she would raise 10 boys before raising another girl. Hum… so hard to believe. Even though my kids have fur, I still ended up with 2 that are just like me.

When I was little, I would not eat anything. They would sit at the table with me for HOURS trying to get me to eat. They even tried the “your are going to get this for breakfast” routine. I still would not eat it. Every movie from the holidays shows me with someone, unsuccessfully trying to shovel food into my mouth.

I mentioned before that Pete was taken away from her mother too early. As a result, I had to hand feed her to get her to eat. This went on for months. It drove me crazy. Finally she started eating. She would scoop the food with her paws, like she saw me do. My sister broke her of this habit. Now, she will eat anything. Since she is older (19) she is on special food to help her put on weight. We have to mix it with another type. She wants it put on her plate a certain way or else she won’t eat it. She will keep talking to you until you pile it properly. This has to be done a few times throughout her meal.

Mable is the slowest eater. Some days it will take her over 20 minutes to eat. Her sisters are done in 7, max. When she does eat, she takes the food out of the bowl to eat it off her rug. My sister started dumping her dish out on the floor to get her to eat. She will eat it every time. When I feed her, I ignore her. It works most of the time.

The daily battle over food continues in my life. This time, the tables are turned.
