Winter is fast approaching and with that comes the excitement of SNOW! Something about the delicacy and pureness of a fresh snowfall is captivating as it floats from the heavens and blankets the earth below. Children are especially taken with the phenomenon of snow and, from the first flake, long to touch it, roll around in it, and hurl it into the air! Yet not every child gets to experience snow, or at least not as often as they’d like. With Snow To Go®, children can celebrate the joy of snow all year long!

With the average 3-year-old watching several hours of television every day, pediatricians are making recommendations to get kids off the couch and engaged in active learning. Parents may feel unequipped to help their little ones find constructive activities, but thanks to the expert design of Grasshopper Prep Kits, all the work is done and parents and children can enjoy creative and fun learning time together!

“So use…your imagination,” wrote Cole Porter. This remains excellent advice today! Imagination, that glorious key ingredient to a happy childhood, builds a strong foundation in the architecture of a fertile, young mind. Children who nurture creativity find unique solutions to life’s challenges as they grow into adulthood. The Giggle Guide® celebrates the creative sparks that ignite children’s imaginations with a look at crafts and activities from Supereditions, Aliquantum-International, Peter Pauper Press, Faber Castell’s Creativity for Kids and Bead Bazaar.

ABC Kids Expo - Las Vegas, Nevada (10/10/10 - 10/13/10)

As the primary trade show for independent retailers and manufacturers of juvenile products, ABC Kids Expo is growing as quickly as the children who use the products it showcases. With over 900 exhibitors, Expo’s October 2010 show in Las Vegas was testimony for the power of partnership that drove domestic and international attendance and fostered new business relationships. Among the numerous exhibitors whose innovative products intrigued The Giggle Guide® were Straw-Lution™, The Juno Company, Spuds, Inc., and ViveVita.

Have you ever made a purchase without first looking to see how much the item cost? Most of us need to know the price before approaching the checkout counter, if for no other reason than to decide if we feel the item is worth its cost. Our willingness to pay is dependent upon a number of factors: our expectations of price based upon our knowledge of similar items, our perceptions of value based upon visual cues from the packaging and merchandising, and finally our knowledge or previous experience with the brand. Pricing is a challenging task. Maximizing revenue without deterring purchases is the goal of anyone who’s selling something.

At the recent ABC Kids Expo, Dr. Harvey Karp demonstrated the amazing secret of the calming reflex that quiets crying and helps babies sleep longer. Halo Innovations, maker of the best selling Halo® SleepSack® Wearable Blanket and a leading proponent of safe sleep for babies, has joined forces with Dr. Harvey Karp, a world-renowned pediatrician and author of America’s #1 parenting guide, The Happiest Baby on the Block. Together, they have created the perfect gift for helping new babies sleep safely and soundly. The new Safe and Sound Sleep Gift Set incorporates the award-winning Halo® SleepSack® Swaddle with Dr. Karp’s critically acclaimed CD of soothing white noise.

No happier sound exists than children’s voices rising and falling in laughter and delight! Grownups love to orchestrate this beautiful music by playing games with children. Many households celebrate “family night” — a treasured time set aside to bond over treats and games. Fortunately, specialty companies like FamilyTimeFun, Endless Games, Professor Noggin’s, and GEOToys offer entertaining children’s games that are also educational. Kids and parents alike have a blast learning fun facts, while their playtime is punctuated with harmonious bursts of laughter!

Do you tweet? Have you updated your status on Facebook®? How many people are in your LinkedIn network? Have no clue what I’m talking about? No worries! I’m about to give you a crash course in the recent communication phenomena referred to as social media. Essentially, social media is the convergence of people online connecting with each other, sharing common thoughts, ideas, and beliefs. As individuals, we like to make decisions based upon our beliefs. As a business owner, you can benefit by getting in on the conversations that make up social media.

At Happy Heinys, we know from our family’s experience just how important it is to protect the smallest and most vulnerable babies from the minute they are born. After experiencing first hand the stress, anguish, fear and finally the absolute happiness of the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) I admit that as happy as we were to finally bring our little baby girl home we were also terrified! She had “coded” several times while in the hospital, so the realistic fear of that happening at home was tremendous.
