The Consumer Electronics Show was just held in Las Vegas, and sometimes you can get a feel for the economy and markets in general from this show, as it is the first big tradeshow of the year.

GOOD NEWS! Attendance was up at the CES over 2009. This bodes well for the economy, as it may just be that consumers are finally starting to feel a little more positive.

7 W New York® Gift & Home Textiles Market Week®: - New York City, New York (1/29/10 - 2/4/10)

7 W New York’s first annual NYC Baby & Kids Fair, January 30 - February 1, 2010, promises to be an exciting new event with inspiring and business-enhancing keynote presentations from industry experts. The fair, on the building’s 11th floor, will coincide with three key days of the 7 W Winter Gift and Home Textiles Market®, offering an added value and mutual benefit to exhibitors and attendees of both shows.

Deciding where to spend my advertising dollars used to be so simple. Print or more print? In fact, back in the day (sometime around the Cretaceous period), I worked with three national print publications and called it a day. My phone rang off the hook. I was living in La-La land and didn’t even know it.

New York International Gift Fair - New York City, New York (8/15/09 - 8/20/09)

The 157th NY International Gift Fair (NYIGF) was a cut above, featuring talented artists and gift stores with truly unique and creative pieces. The Giggle Guide has tracked down some of the most talented artists and gift designers around: Zolo, Tatutina, Tyrell Katz, Tiny Tillia, Quiggles Kidswear and Fidoodle Inc.

ABC has been the alpha-buzz at children’s apparel and gift shows over the last few years. There is interest, anticipation and a little mystery among children’s apparel manufacturers about the ABC Kids Expo, September 13 – 16 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. (http://www.theabcshow.com) I get asked more questions about the ABC Show than any other. Since JPMA discontinued its trade show a couple years ago, the ABC Kids Expo is currently the only national trade event designed especially for the juvenile products industry.

Meet The Giggle Guide’s Editor/Co-Founder Leesa Valentino and Editorial Director David Gaunt at KidShow Las Vegas, Bally’s, #803, Aug 31 - Sept 2. Retailers will have a chance to win daily prizes — great children’s products donated by a variety of leading brands. Stop by to learn more about The Giggle Guide®, take an online tour and enter to win products that you can then take back to your stores for your own in-store promotions to help generate increased store traffic. A BIG thanks to all our brand participants!

The air inside our homes and schools can be more toxic than the air outside! Why? Because the very materials and products we use to furnish and maintain our indoor environments can release hundreds of pollutants such as formaldehyde, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), ozone and even biological allergens.

The GREENGUARD Certified Mark on products, ranging from mattresses to fllooring, drywall to paint, offers peace of mind to parents seeking solutions to poor indoor air quality and chemical sensitivities. GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI), considered one of the world’s foremost resources on indoor air quality, will be at The ABC Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, September 13-16, Booth 2135, in the Naturally Kids Pavilion.

This is one of my favorite times of year. It’s warm, beautiful and green outside and instead of going Back-to-School, I start Part II of my bi-annual trade show circuit. Current count: 2 down, 6 to go.

Trade show season is in my top 3 “Things I Love about my Job.” It starts with unpacking box after box of Spring 2010 samples and continues with meeting new clients, networking with colleagues and visiting beautiful cities all over the US. It’s crazy, it’s busy and I occasionally feel like I’ll never “get it all done” by October 31st but… I’m happily addicted to this time of year. We can always sleep in November, right?
