Made Here Baby!”

"Made Here, Baby!"

By Bruce H. Wolk

Millions of products were recalled due to safety issues in the past year. Some of these recalled products had high contents of lead; others were choking or burning hazards and most were manufactured outside of the United States. Many people have lost jobs because the cheaper prices overseas helped close US-based manufacturing plants. Combine the job losses with the number of products manufactured outside of the United States being recalled, and you have a recipe for consumers who are more inclined to purchase products from companies who manufacture their products within the United States.

Author Bruce H. Wolk

The biggest problem consumers have with this desire to buy US made products is finding US-based companies that carry the products they’re looking for. Bruce Wolk has come up with a solution. In 2006, Wolk decided that he wanted to write a book detailing companies that offer children’s products manufactured in the United States.

He noted that almost none of the product recalls consisted of products made in the United States; therefore, it would be in parents’ best interests to purchase products made in the United States. Wolk had high standards for the companies he wanted to list in his book. He didn’t merely want to compile a generic list of companies. Wolk wanted a list of companies providing high quality American made products for children.

His idea was a success. In his book, Made Here, Baby!, Wolk only lists companies that manufacture children’s products in America. He also only includes those that he has interviewed and researched thoroughly. Parents can trust that the companies included in Wolk’s book offer only high-quality merchandise manufactured in the US.

As a result, companies that manufacture their products in the United States can benefit greatly from being listed in Made Here, Baby! Both companies and consumers alike can submit suggestions on Wolk’s Web site, madeherebaby.com. Bruce Wolk will interview and research all companies before allowing their submission into his book.
