Necessity and Jen are the Mothers of Invention: Lillibands™ and LilliWear™

Oh, mama! Mixing cute and functional is no problem for little girls and their mamas when “Lillibands™” or “LilliWear™” is printed on their clothing tags…not that anyone needs to look at the tags, because the products speak for themselves!

Both Lillibands and LilliWear are clearly the product of a mother who has solved the daily dilemma of dressing a little girl and keeping her cute, clean, and comfortable for any occasion. That mother is Jen Newman. Using her appreciation of folk art, and passion for fashion and sewing as raw materials, Jen conceived Lillibands in 2006. Her baby daughter, Lilly, was her creative spark. Jen wanted a pretty headband for Lilly’s little bald head, but nothing she bought stayed in place. What’s a mother to do but invent Lillibands, the headbands with an elastic underside? From there, it’s no stretch to market them for girls all over the United States!

Jen’s next quandary was finding clothes for Lilly that were pretty and durable enough to wear throughout the daily doings of a messy little child. Turning children’s fashion inside out, Jen created the Messy Girl Reversible Dress. When Lilly got messy, mama just flipped the double-sided dress to make her child presentable again! Thus, Jen’s practical and inspired clothing line was born in 2009 and christened LilliWear. The original reversible dress is still a favorite, worn alone, layered for cool weather, or worn as a tunic when a growing girl finds it a little short for dress length. Speaking of growing, LilliWear now includes the Lilly T-shirt Dress, Lilly T and Pocket Skirt, Princess Dress, and Messy Girl Reversible Skirt.

Of course, Lillibands coordinate with LilliWear fabrics in hip and funky colors and patterns. And the bands come in small, medium, large and extra large to fit babies, little girls, teens — even mama when she and her little girl want to do that dress-alike thing. The headbands vary in width from 1” to 1-3/4” in the larger sizes and make perfect accessories for the delightful styles and shapes of LilliWear. They can even be monogrammed or special-ordered to match school colors.

Mothers can hardly expect more thoughtful products — unless they happen to be mothers of boys. Maybe that’s what Jen means when she tells us to stay posted for Messy Boys and Messy Mommies!
