LulaBiner Gives Families a Hand

It doesn’t take a professor to figure out that busy families can always use an extra hand. But it wouldn’t hurt to have a former professor with kids figure out a way to help out.

“The first time I took my new baby into a public restroom and couldn’t find a convenient way to hang my diaper bag near the changing table, I knew I had to develop a hook that could help every parent and caregiver…” explained Lulabop founder, Mina Yoo. Yoo has two children, and used to be a professor at the University of Washington as well as a Visiting Faculty Fellow at Stanford. She has a deep understanding of the difficulties faced by modern parents and caregivers. It all comes down to the constant motion and baggage of life: bags, coats, sports gear, and diaper bags all have to go somewhere. (And despite what kids think, that spot is not on the floor.)

Hands-free Device Makes Life Easier

Yoo’s gift to families is the LulaBiner: a two-ended carabiner (think D-shaped ring with a spring catch, similar to that used in mountain climbing). It sports two functional hooks that utilize a magnet to allow for hands-off peace of mind. The LulaBiner is innovative and extremely useful: the rubber end cap keeps the tool in place so there are no worries about dropped bags or spilled gear. It helps that the LulaBiner is constructed from zinc — well-known for its protective properties against corrosion (NASA uses a zinc-based coating on its spacecraft parts) and durability.

The LulaBiner is a snap to use, and can go just about anywhere. It can support weights up to 100 lbs, making it useful for hanging up diaper bags or purses in the bathroom, keeping hockey gear off the floor, or even suspending tweens’ heavy book bags. The LulaBiner is compact for storage (3.5” x 4.5”) but expandable for duty (8” when fully open). The LulaBiner would make a great gift for any parent (but two would be twice as nice!). It would also be an ideal present to help kids keep their lockers organized or for teachers who want to have quick access to the extra supplies they need.

Lulabop successfully launched the LulaBiner at the October ABC Kids Expo in Vegas. The tool will be ready for action in January 2014, and is the first of many family-friendly innovations to come. Yoo states, “The LulaBiner will be the first of a series of ‘Lula’ products that help not just with babies and young children, but can be used as tools for travel and active life in general.”
