JiIIy’s husband Kory is no stranger to the apparel business, representing the third generation in his family to work in this industry. Bringing his years of
experience into his union with Jill, the couple started
out over 20 years ago with a showroom focusing
on adult wear.
At that time, their main line, New Man, began producing a kid’s line. Jilly rolled up her sleeves and put all she had into the newly created Miniman line Realizing she had found her true calling, she began to devote her time solely to children’s wear and never looked back.
A few years later she made a decision to break into the children’s market with her own agency, and in 1988, JiIIy’s Clothing Corporation was born When Jilly speaks of her business, her passion for the line of work she has chosen is clearly conveyed. She recalls the early days, “struggling door to door” with her three original lines Sahara Club, Peas in a Pod and Miniman. An aspect of the business she learned early on, was how crucial ‘road work’ is. To this day, Jilly notes how important it is to “get out there -to know and see the stores you’re dealing with, so that you are a help to them.”
Over ten years ago, Jilly and Kory took an initial step into distribution in Canada and the United States with one of her longest running lines Puddleduds.
Kory spends most of his time running this area of the business, while Jilly tends to focus on the sales agency, enabling her to keep a finger on the pulse of the outside world Maintaining their family tradition, a fourth generation is now hard at work, as one of their three daughters has caught the apparel bug. For the last three years, Jordana has worked alongside her parents as an integral member of the agency. Jill comments that Jordana, being born and raised in the industry, is a natural and her parents find it extraordinary to have her as a partner.
