“I was truly at my wit’s end,” shares Erin Kelly, founder of Hulabye. Like many other enthusiastic parents, Kelly was enthralled with every stage of her daughter’s growth… until baby decided that life was too short to stay still for a diaper change. The squirmy tot made diaper changes a challenge, but Kelly, who is also a physician, put her creativity to work: “With my limited sewing skills, I put together something that I thought would work. Nearly identical to the current Hulabye design, it was a simple vest that looped around the changing pad, in super soft flannel, that was fast and easy to use. Lo and behold, it worked! That was the very first Hulabye and it truly changed my life.”

The hand-sewn prototype was just the beginning. Kelly’s problem evolved into a safe solution for herself and many other families — but success did not come quickly or easily. “We struggled to find a reliable, high-quality manufacturer for Hulabye. Production was taking twice as long as it should have, communication was very poor, and the quality of the sewing was not up to our standards. We are lucky to be based in Los Angeles where garment manufacturing is a sizable industry. Through a contact at an established high-end women’s clothing line, we were able to find some great contractors who are now producing a very high quality product for us,” notes Kelly.

Her search to create a superior product has paid off: the Happy Changer, which holds baby safely so she can be changed, is a hands-down customer favorite. The Happy Changer comes in one size (suitable for the majority of children up to 24 months old) and utilizes simple hook and loop closures. It also fits snugly over the standard pad on a changing table and is contoured for the child’s comfort.
