L'il Kitch is Kitchy in the Kitchen

L’il Kitch is a line from Joie Shop which carries some of the most unique kitchen and household items. From wine stoppers to Christmas tree toppers, Joie Shop offers modern, charming designs. L’il Kitch creates kitchen tools aimed at kids to get them interested in cooking in a playful way. They designed their items revolving around that philosophy and trying to bring as much joy as possible to the process of making meals as a family.

Joie products are mainly aimed at adults who like a whimsical approach to kitchen tools. They really cover a wide spectrum of age groups. Owner Philippe Baril explains, “L’il Kitch is kind of the exception to this, but it seemed only logical to try to make products for kids given the general aesthetic of their products.”

The line has gained success because parents enjoy the opportunity to cook with their kids in a playful way and spend quality time with them. It is an opportunity to teach, rather than having them sit and watch TV while dinner is being prepared.

Baril says, “We try to make functional and fun kitchen tools at a fair price. Even if our products are affordable, we take a great care in the design of every detail. For the same price as the competition, we have better quality and function. We also have a fairly quick development cycle which allows us to react quickly to the market.”

All designs are made in North America by their in-house design team, located at their Montreal headquarters. The team is led by Baril, and his colleague Joanne Lapointe. They both have a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design from the University of Montreal.

The top sellers are their egg frying pan, the mechanical timers (the pig in particular), the regular ice cube trays, their bacon trays, and the favorite French fry serving cone. Baril says about his favorite product, “I like products that solve a problem in a cute and functional way, like storage vegetable shaped pods for leftover onions, tomatoes and lemons.”
