Worry Woo Monsters Embrace Emotions
Confused? Lonely? Insecure? Afraid to try new things? Happens to everyone. Maybe even a child you know! Now there’s Worry Woos, a new book series, with plush companions, to help children embrace many of the emotions that make us human. Monsters show us the way!
The world of the Worry Woos is a place where common childhood emotions are brought to life with loveable monsters that teach children to embrace their feelings. The Worry Woos collection includes a storybook series with plush dolls of each character. Each book tells the story of a loveable monster that embodies a specific emotion, from loneliness to confusion.
The series began in 2001 when artist Andi Green debuted The Worry Woo Monsters display at the New York art exhibit. Receiving high praise from educators and parents for her concept of embracing emotion, in 2007 she expanded on the idea to include the dolls and storybook collection. Andi says she wants, “to openly discuss emotions and not candy-coat feelings.”
Today the collection includes four loveable and unforgettable characters:
- Nola, the Monster of Loneliness
- Rue, the Monster of Insecurity
- Squeek, the Monster of Innocence
- Fuddle, the Monster of Confusion
The dolls exhibit a signature bellybutton, huge childlike eyes, and distinct cartoon features.
The characters’ stories and personalities are brought to life in Andi’s books. Books currently available are The Lonely Little Monster, featuring Nola; and The Nose That Didn’t Fit, featuring Rue.
Coming in September 2009 is The Monster in the Bubble, with Squeek, The Monster of Innocence. Squeek lives in a bubble and is afraid to try the new things he desperately wants to attempt. He continues to retreat to his safe bubble, missing out on the experiences he wishes to have. In the end, his bubble, with a voice of its own, decides it is time for Squeek to move into the world.
This highly-acclaimed collection is used in various school programs for artistic therapy, including the Jersey City public school system. Among the many awards received by the Worry Woos is the “2009 Best Products” iParenting award.
The books and stuffed dolls are appropriate for ages 3 and up. The books retail for $14.50 and the dolls retail for $21.50. The collection will be expanded in 2010 to include Twitch, the monster of frustration and Wince, the monster of worry.
