Petsapalooza Games Promote Pet Adoption and Life Skills
By Stephanie Hanlon
There’s a reason Bob Barker is always telling us to spay and neuter our pets. Pet overpopulation is no joke, and as people become more aware, fostering and rescuing dogs has become more popular. Carianne Burnley launched Petsapalooza LLC in 2009 to create high-quality fun toys for pet lovers that also teach about the importance of pet adoption. The idea for Petsapalooza came from Carianne’s love of animals, and also from years of volunteering at a local shelter and being on their Board of Directors. She knew kids loved animals and pretend play, so why not combine the two? The first product Petsapalooza launched was Fur-Ever Home®, The Animal Rescue Board Game. This summer, instead of video games, teach humane rescue and business acumen with the only board game on the market where players run their own animal rescue business. Kids get to make decisions about pets like: Should your rescue take in that tough-to-place animal (more points) or that easily adoptable animal (fewer points)? How will you raise money? Should you adopt out, take in, or collect funds at the annual Petsapalooza event?
Fur-Ever Home also encourages math skills for the budding business owner, including allowing players to choose whom to hire and how much to pay. Clearly Carianne is a beast in business because in 2012, Fur-Ever Home won Creative Play’s 2012 Game of the Year award in the Socially Conscious category.
Piggy-backing on this puppy love, Pet Frenzied is frantic, furry fun for the whole family! It‘s a get up and move, hide and seek, memory card game for 2 to 6 players, ages 3 and up. Pick a play area and let the fun begin! After hiding the pets, the Hider yells “Pet Frenzied,” and the Seekers select a House card and search for a matching Pet card. Once a Seeker finds a matching Pet, they go back and select another House and search for more. Be fast, be frenzied, and win by matching the most Pets to Houses. Beyond just fun, Pet Frenzied is educational. Players learn and expand on their color matching and memory skills.Petsapalooza products are made in the USA and a portion of the proceeds per game are given to local rescues and shelters across the country.
