Winther is the “Wheel” Thing

Kids have always loved the freedom of operating their own wheeled vehicles. For most people, the moment of mastering a two-wheeler stands out as one of the milestones of childhood, and they hold fond memories of the freedom and adventure that riding can bring. In most cases, the love of cycling starts with a smaller vehicle like a tricycle. These beginner cycles allow kids to get used to the feeling of being in control of a set of wheels, and to gain the strength and coordination that they will need to take their riding to the next level.

Today, many schools and daycare establishments take advantage of the energy-burning and motor-skill-building benefits of tricycles and other riding toys for young children. These toys are valuable tools for learning and fun, particularly for children from families with two working parents who may not be able to spend hours playing outdoors at home. Europeans especially have promoted wheeled riding toys as good for kids’ physical education, and schools there often invest in high-quality tricycles that are made to be safe and durable enough to stand up to the demands of the playground. If you ever visit Denmark, you’re likely to see school children riding on Winther trikes. Winther has been a respected Danish company for nearly 8 decades, and is still on the cutting edge of trike and cycle design.

The Winther story began in 1930 with a traffic accident that left Anders Winther unable to do the hard manual work of a blacksmith. Instead, he looked for other ways to make a living and, in 1932, began producing toboggans, later extending the product range to include tricycles and scooters as well. Anders’ brother, Frede, introduced Winther bicycles in 1947. After many successful years, the company merged with Gonge, an educational publishing company, in 2010. This new joint venture solidified Winther’s vision of developing trikes and cycles designed with creative play in mind.

The quality of Winther’s craftsmanship is apparent in every detail, from the solid frames to the eye-catching paint jobs. There are many models available in each of their 10 product lines; they include everything from sleek racers to six-seat buggies.
