Busy Bees Earns a Sweet Star Endorsement
There’s nothing like a celebrity endorsement to bring a company more attention and business. Problem is, these endorsements can be difficult to obtain, not to mention expensive. Luckily for children’s clothing company Busy Bees, they got a super star endorsement for absolutely free. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow mentioned them in her blog, saying that their clothing was the kind that her children “love to wear.” This shout-out was among the many reasons that Busy Bee is enjoying so much popularity right now, and with top-quality products and lots of good feedback, they’re likely to stay on top of their game. Busy Bees describes its clothing style as “American prep.” That means clean, crisp lines; classic prints like stripes and plaid; and comfortable cuts. Kids can look well-put-together while feeling free enough to move around and have fun. The tailored shirts and dresses call to mind New England holiday gatherings or picnics at the summer cottage. In addition to everyday clothing for kids, Busy Bees also offers styles that are suitable for dressy occasions.
Busy Bees was founded in 2009 by Maryam Barrett. Barrett had enjoyed a very successful career in fashion and public relations, but always felt the itch to express her creativity by starting her own company. After becoming a mom, Maryam’s passion for designing her own line became even stronger. One day, while looking through some childhood photos, Barrett began to develop an appreciation for the clothing she used to wear as a child. Her father had a high-profile job and the family had a full social calendar, meaning that little Maryam had the opportunity to dress in top-notch clothing. Looking at the old pictures, she noticed the high-quality fabrics, skilled detailing and timeless charm. She realized that that quality was not widely available to her children’s generation and wanted to create a line that revived these elements, but with a contemporary twist.
Once Barrett got Busy Bees off the ground, a friend came along to lend her talents to the operation. Shannon Spotswood worked in the investment industry and her children attended the same school as Barrett’s. The two talked business, and decided that Spotswood would make a great addition as the company’s CFO. At the financial helm, Spotswood has helped propel the company to new heights. Today the friends are enjoying their success and hoping to continue building their brand.
