Layered Looks with Sticky Fudge
Remember those carefree days when the best thing was staying out all day? Of course, you probably wore layers at some point, a warm sweater on an early morning or a pair of trousers under a light dress. The layered look will always be a part of childhood –– some of us can even remember a favorite cardigan or pullover that went from the playground to a cozy meal at grandma’s house. Sticky Fudge, a South African clothing company, provides families with pieces that encourage and enhance layering. It aspires to become part of all that is good about childhood, thanks to strong demand. “We had a very successful Spring/Summer 2013 Season,” explained Cheri Kroeger who handles marketing for Sticky Fudge. The company has its origins at an Organic & Natural Product market in Stellenbosch, South Africa; demand for the clothing outstripped the on-hand supply, so Frinette, the designer and creator of Sticky Fudge, expanded the business to meet customer needs. Almost every piece in the collection is crafted in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Sticky Fudge look draws on classic styles (think cargoes and flowing dresses) to allow for maximum impact year after year. It brings to market some of the best in vintage-inspired fashion to infants and children ages 1-7, and all garments are constructed from 100% cotton. Pieces are designed to mix and match according to taste and season.
Sticky Fudge offers a full range of clothing, from accessories and tops to stockings and sleepwear. Its warm weather collection includes great looks in soothing woodland tones and themes. For example, the Heather Dress (Soft Floral) harkens back to a warm summer afternoon in a field of wildflowers (available for girls ages 12 months to 5 years old). It could easily be paired with the grey Matilda jersey for cooler days (for girls 12 months to 7 years old).
The cool weather collection is full of classic looks and cozy layers. Kroeger noted that tailored pieces abound, including “tailored coats for girls, padded jackets for boys, and checked waistcoats for those special occasions.” For little girls, the Aurora Blouse in ash would make a splash at an evening out or an afternoon tea. Ribbon-belted cardigans in a range of soft colors can go with just about any look. Little boys will look dapper in the Lloyd pants and Luther waistcoat, both a sporting nod to a simpler time.
There are some little folks who may just look like trouble and for them the Franklin T in grey is a must (it has the slogan “I Didn’t Do It” emblazoned across the front).
