The Adventures of Eddy and Scout
“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.” - John Muir
Clothing for children often follows a simple map: primary colors and simple designs. Holly Willis, creator of Eddy and Scout, charts a different course with unique textiles, colors and fit. Born from a need for clothes to fit her own lanky child while still offering uber-soft textiles, a sense of whimsy and quality design, Eddy and Scout has became a line for that skinny, tall kid on their own adventure.
As with any great journey, Eddy and Scout began small and grew from the original business, The Red Canoe. Along the way, Holly Willis marked the trip with a conscious support of Denver, Colorado sewers that keep the creation and production of Eddy and Scout garments in the US. In what once was the frontier, she continues to forge into new territories of children’s clothing with a line whose very name echoes her spirit of exploration. Eddy refers not to a whimsical child but to the eddy lines in the river that challenge river explorers looking for an opportunity to scout.Sustainability in materials and production is a quest for many companies. Holly not only creates through US workers, but also adds sustainability to her garments. Each design sustains the joy of childhood exploration with pockets for treasures, soft fabrics and non-scratchy seams, with a longer, leaner cut for growth. Children can explore the world with her attention to sensory details for going on grand adventures. While these are clothes for exploration, they are not just a miniature version of adult hiking garments. Eddy and Scout also maintains the sustainability of childhood by making garments that preserve that experience of being a kid. To further underscore that Eddy and Scout clothes are made for real kids, Eddy and Scout offers a workmanship guarantee for any construction defect.
For fall, Holly and her team created a line drawing inspiration from her time as a Colorado Wilderness guide. Sensory details are reflected in the colors of the forest like mossy green, wildflowers, mountain stream teal, deep red, and earthy creams and tans to echo the earthiness of the mountains. Fun screen print animals dance across the Eddy and Scout perennial favorite Adventure hoodie. The heritage of the line is also honored by the Denver city skyline on their Urban Adventure Hoodie. To help parents coordinate wardrobes, past Eddy and Scout basics integrate seamlessly with the Fall line. As a mom, Holly designs to accommodate real kids with designs in bold, deep colors that hide dirt from treasure hunting and exploring nature or a city park.
The saying goes we should leave only footprints and take only photographs when we explore nature. Eddy and Scout is the clothing kids wear to leave those footprints. From childhood memories to photographs of kids playing in a forest pile of leaves, Eddy and Scout ensures the adventure is always fun and stylish to boot (hiking boot that is).
