Home on the Range with Cuddlestar
Once upon a time a Texas gal grew up adoring her Marlborough man-handsome dad who melded ranching with designing cowboy boots. Inspired by him and wild about all things Western and Native American, Adrian Layne developed Cuddlestar, a line of Western wear for babies and toddlers that has taken off. There are one-piece garments decked with images of cowboys, ponies, and Native American themes like the Thunderbird and Dream Catchers, all cute and very wearable for that Western vibe. Shoppers will delight in the Petunia Pony bodysuit for a very little cowgirl with an appliqué of a pink pony. The suit is made of interlock cotton so it’s machine washable and comes in sizes for 3-6 months, 6-12 months and 12-18 months. A young wrangler will look sharp in the denim body suit with pearl snaps, red stitching around the chest pocket and red-and-white turn-back cuffs. This item is also available in pink plaid so ill’ sis can strut her stuff as well.
Layne, who is part Choctaw, is especially proud of the baby footwear as “a cute, functional cowboy boot for a baby is hard to find,” she says. The chocolate brown and pink leather cowboy boots are a great way to finish off a Western look, lined in buttery soft leather with a leather exterior. The same boot look, complete with a big star on the front, also comes in chocolate brown, stamped to resemble an ostrich for little dudes who yearn for wide open space.
Baby moccasins feature a fringed tassel detail and elastic around the ankle to keep them snug with Velcro on the sides to make them easy to take on and off. The moccasin comes in a host of great colors including sage, plum, royal blue and a metallic gold that would be a knockout on a little girl.
Layne started her biz on her grandmother’s sewing machine, enlisting her mom’s help with some of the sewing. She then took her wares to local Austin markets where she hawked them under a tent. Now she’s gone big-time but still delights in designing the best in Western wear for cowboys and cowgirls in the making.
