Comfort Comes First for Kids with Tactile Sensory Disorder
If you’ve ever bought a t-shirt with an itchy tag or a seam that doesn’t lay flat, it’s easy to imagine what millions of children with Tactile Sensory Disorder experience. Children with the disorder often feel extremely uncomfortable wearing traditional clothing. Itchy fabric, seams, hems, tags and waistbands become especially irritating. The desire to make life more comfortable for these kids has created a niche in the children’s apparel industry. Teres Kids, Soft®, Dye-namic Movement Products and Cricket Hosiery are some terrific brands that make outfitting children with Tactile Sensory Disorder their business.
Teres Kids Knows that Comfort Makes for a Better Day

The brand’s philosophy is that all children are unique, and their clothing should be made for comfort. That’s why Teres Kids clothing is so soft and sensory-friendly, with material, designs, and fabrication processes that feel great.

Soft Says It All for Clothing that Feels So Good
In development since 2007, Soft introduced its first collection in Winter 2009/10, with an emphasis on comfort styling for all children, not just those with tactile defensiveness/sensitivity. As a research-driven company, Soft developed and tested its own Soft Sensory blend that is particularly comfortable for children easily irritated by conventional clothing.
The company’s co-founder and director is Jessica Ralli, a mom and special education teacher with an eye for comfort, self expression and style. Special design considerations include combed, bio-washed and pre-washed ultra-soft cotton seamless construction, wide collars, encased elastic waistbands, tagless labels and custom fits. Only vegetable dyes, natural enzyme washes, and water-based digital prints are used, in order to protect against allergens.
In addition, co-founder Suzy Kogen Friedman, an advocate for people with developmental disabilities, is creating a Soft Sensory Toy line scheduled to launch in 2011.
