Earth Day, Every Day

Prince Lionheart

Happy Earth Day! Initially started to call attention to the necessity of protecting the environment and natural resources, Earth Day has evolved into a celebration that highlights the grandeur of nature and the various ways that we can all pull together to make the world a better place. Gaylord Nelson, a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, is credited with calling for the first Earth Day. According to, Nelson was motivated to designate a special day for honoring the environment after witnessing the devastating effects of an oil spill.

Of course, many children’s companies have strong environmental policies they practice every day of the year. Companies like Prince Lionheart, Simple Nature, BooginHead and Tiny Tater Tees are bringing useful products to families while helping to build a better world.

Keeping it Real with Simple Nature

Simple Nature
The Simple Nature line of bath products is a natural extension of owner Bianca Pratt’s own love of the pure and natural. Earth Day is a conscious thought throughout the year at the company, although there are some big plans for the 2014 celebration. “This year we will be planting a tree for every product sold, as well as huge discounts for Earth Week!” explained Pratt.

While every product made by the company incorporates sustainable practice and people-friendly ingredients, there are a few customer favorites. The Fragrance Free Shampoo & Body Wash is a mega-hit with a broad range of customers, and is especially appealing to those with sensitive skin. It utilizes a natural sugar-based cleanser that provides real cleaning power while protecting the softest skin. Another winner is the Orange Smoothie Face & Body Lotion, a fragrant treatment that keeps skin soft and smooth.

Pratt noted that there are a number of great products in the pipeline: “We have our much anticipated all natural conditioners in both fragrances, lip balms, and a new healing salve for cloth diapering and minor cuts, scrapes, burns and irritations rolling out within the next few months.”

BooginHead: Squeez‘Em, Love’Em

Taking care of your family? Taking care of the planet? CEO, Chief BooginHead, and busy mom Sari Crevin understands that when it comes to this kind of choice, the two ideas need to be linked into one: take care of your family and the planet.

That’s the kind of thinking that resulted in the creation of the BooginHead Squeez’Ems. The Squeez’Ems are reusable food pouches ideal for pureed treats. Since they are geared towards pureed foods, Squeez’Ems can serve just about everyone in the family, from babies on the go to tweens who are running out the door with some homemade yogurt. Of course, any product that protects family and planet needs to be free of toxins, and Squeez’Ems fill the bill: they lack BPA, PVC, and phthalates. Squeez’Ems are the ideal size for small hands, and can be heated up in the microwave or cooled in the freezer. Best of all, they are dishwasher safe, so clean up is a snap.

BooginHead also provides an array of other family-friendly products, including the PaciGrip pacifier “leash” that keeps the pacifier from slipping into oblivion, and the PaciPouch, which helps keep the binky clean and dry when not in use.

Smart solutions for Earth dwellers:

Tiny Tater Tees, Organics for Kids

Tiny Tater Tees
Tracy van Ravensway, founder of Tiny Tater Tees, takes her organic tee shirts, one-piece bodysuits, pants, and skirts one step beyond being purely organic. They are also designed with the bounty of the earth: the original stamps for designs are cut from potatoes. Each garment in the line is constructed from 100% organic cotton and is machine-washable, which is good because kids will want to wear these clothes over and over again.

From tall multi-hued scoops of ice cream to slices of juicy watermelon, Tiny Tater Tees caters to the smallest among us. “Some of the best sellers from the current tee collection are the monkey and giraffe designs, and also our ties,” explains van Ravensway. “There have been many other popular designs over the year, such as the elephants and ladybugs.” The Organic Print Monkey one-piece is a mischievous tribute to childhood, and has three snaps at the bottom (sizes 3-6 and 6-12 months).

The Organic Tools Print Necktie for toddlers comes in a dusty shade of sunflower yellow and is decorated with gears and wrenches (an infant size is available). Organic Drawstring Yoga Pants are ideal for play dates, hitting the books, a day at the park, or extra coverage under a short dress. Tiny Tater Tees offers them in a rainbow of hues so they can be mixed and matched with just about any outfit.
