Cloud B’s Quality Sleep Products Awaken International Sales

From big idea to multinational sensation, Cloud B is focused on its mission of “helping children sleep.” Beginning as a joint business venture, Cloud B has evolved into a worldwide company with a desire to better the planet and fill a void in the children’s market. Many know of Cloud B’s Sleep Sheep and Twilight Turtle products which have calmed countless children to sleep. Now, join us for a behind-the-scenes look at how Cloud B began, how it stays true to its business vision, and how it’s floating on “cloud 9” due to the humanitarian and environmental efforts made possible by its success.

Simple Gift Leads to Big Dreams

Founded in 2002 by five business partners and entrepreneurs, Cloud B focuses on producing quality products that aide in a restful and safe night’s sleep for infants and children. The group had been involved in other industries when partner Linda Suh received a European sleeping bag as a gift for her first child. The simple gift gave the new mom an idea, and a fresh perspective.

The group found a strong need in the Children’s Industry, with few products that focused on helping children sleep better, and no brands focusing solely on this important aspect of childhood. Understanding the strain of sleep deprivation on parents and the need for healthy sleep in babies and children, the group knew they had found their niche. As two partners got ready for their first babies, a passion for this industry quickly spread throughout the group.

Starting the Brand — The Rest is History!

Products were developed with the help of a consultant team of pediatricians and sleep experts. Starting mostly from scratch, one by one Cloud B products and supplies began filling up the partners’ garages. The Cloud B team was devoted to developing quality products and building a brand, which led to rapid growth.

With a focus on useful products within its sleep category, Cloud B President and CEO Nader Hamda says, “It feels good to build something out of nothing and to make a difference at the same time.”

Award-Winning Products — Counting More Than Sheep!

Two of the products responsible for the growth are the award-winning Sleep Sheep and the Twilight Turtle. The Sleep Sheep is a plush lamb that attaches to the outside of the crib and plays soft white noise, nature sounds, and imitates a mother’s heartbeat. The audio soothes even the smallest, fussiest infant to sleep and can be used throughout childhood.

The highly acclaimed Twilight Turtle comforts toddlers and children to sleep with a soothing star projection. The turtle projects a full night sky from a plastic shell. The shell glows blue, green, or amber and serves as a nightlight for those commonly afraid of the dark. The starry night is displayed on the ceiling and shows 8 constellations, including the Big Dipper. Beyond being highly functional, these products are beautifully designed with rich colors and fanciful features.

Shedding Light on Making a Difference

Soon after the launch and explosive success of Cloud B, the founders began to recognize a humanitarian platform for their company. Their presence in a family community gave them an audience. Choosing to use this platform for the greater good, the team decided to bring attention to endangered species around the world. The team began integrating endangered species into marketing campaigns and products, as a way to educate children on the importance of protecting wildlife and our environment. A portion of the proceeds from these products are donated to preserving endangered species.

Giving back, Cloud B donates a portion of all proceeds from their Endangered Species Collection to Conservation International. The line includes; Dozy Dolphin, a water noise maker; The Twilight Sea Turtle; and the new Polar Cuddle Cub, a plush polar bear that gently vibrates when snuggled.

Beyond their conservation efforts, Cloud B has used its popularity and success to give back to organizations such as Autism Speaks, Children’s Hospital at UCLA, and the Cancer Fund of America through monetary and product donations.

Today the company has expanded to include an office in China, where one of the founders now lives. For of the original five are still involved in the day-to-day operations of the company. Cloud B products are sold in specialty boutiques in 28 countries and throughout the United States.

Reflecting on Cloud B’s success, Hamda said, “It’s nice to design something that allows us to introduce new ideas that make a difference, no matter how small. Every business wants to make money, but if you can make a difference at the same time, it is fully gratifying.”
