Spence Baby: Where Fashion and Ethics Meet

When Paul Barton’s sister got pregnant, he and his wife, Sandy, discovered a gap in the children’s market. They searched for baby clothes that were both fashionable and sustainable, but couldn’t find anything that they liked. Clothes produced in an ethical manner all seemed to be frumpy and boring, whereas the cutest baby clothes were in no way sustainable. When the couple discovered they had a baby of their own on the way, they decided to take on the challenge themselves. Spence Baby was born, named after their new little girl, Spencer Grace.

“When you have your first child, the need to provide them with the best, highest-quality items can only be described as primal,” said co-founder Sandy Barton, “At the same time, however, I wanted to dress Spencer in fashionable clothing she would look adorable in. This is what I strive to offer with Spence Baby; the healthiest and highest-quality fibers, no toxic dyes or processes and all is in sophisticated and classic looks.”

Not only is all the cotton used to make Spence Baby clothes certified organic and sustainable, but its garments are also crafted following a set of ethical guidelines. The company ensures that nowhere along the supply chain is there any child, slave or involuntary labor. This makes Spence Baby clothing the ideal option for consumers who want to make more ethical buying choices.

Spence Baby’s Spring 2015 collection features a range of organic cotton garments for girls and boys from 0 to 18 months. Classic one-pieces and rompers are always a big hit, but the line features all kinds of clothes to suit a range of tastes and occasions.

For baby girls, there’s an assortment of dresses and skirts that have a soft, feminine appeal, without being too girly. Lots of greens and browns can be found in the line of boys’ pants and tops, which is fitting for the season.

Cute and comfortable sleepwear is also on offer, along with gorgeous hooded organic cotton blankets for boys or girls. Accessories such as hats, bibs, booties, headbands and mittens tick all the boxes and are the kinds of essentials that all parents need for their little ones.
