There are so many ways to spruce up baby’s nursery or any room sustainably. A new room update doesn’t require spending a dime if you gather up a few eco-chic tips!

An easy and natural way to create atmosphere in any room is through scent. Consider the delight from delicious kitchen aromas or the smell of a bubble bath. At the May 1st Eco-Chic Expo in Seattle, exhibitor Satsuma Designs will help guests create these scents to turn each day into a springtime stroll. Here’s a little recipe they’ve cooked up.

Sweet Smells from Satsuma Designs - Natural Room Scents

Did I mention I don’t really miss the end of my pinkie that my Dad nicked off while clipping my nails as an infant? Oh, no, I didn’t? That’s because I DO MISS IT!

Satsuma Designs has an organic and affordable solution to the anger, guilt (Dad?) and anxiety that clipping baby’s nails can evoke. Check out our brand spanking (no necessary) new Organic Bamboo Baby Scratch Mittens ($8/pair). These little gems fashioned with an adorable gros grain ribbon tab for easy on/off will keep baby’s gnarly nails from inflicting permanent damage on that soft, fragile little skin.

You know it all too well. Once you entered parenthood, somehow “sleep” stopped being a part of your vocabulary. Even when the little critters are already in dreamland, your momma instincts keep you alert for any sound or movement. This is especially true if you have babies! And you find yourself missing what it felt like to be in a truly deep slumber.

Fret not! There is still hope! You may not be able to get back into worry-free sleep, but there are still ways that you can help yourself deal with sleep deprivation. Parents.com clues you in:

The Tired Moms’ Guide to Better Sleep

The devastation in Haiti reminds us of human frailty. But more importantly, how this frailty turns to great strength when we extend a helping hand and lift each other up.

In the hope of somehow reaching out to the victims of the earthquake, we invite you to join us as we do our share in aiding our brothers and sisters in Haiti. We will be donating a portion of our sales to UNICEF to help in Haiti relief efforts. If you’d like to take part, please visit our website. Every purchase at No Slippy Hair Clippy can do so much in extending a little help.

Ahh the week after Christmas… You are either too bloated with that Christmas dinner (or dinners, if you’re very friendly!) to get out of bed, not-so-bloated and on your way to your post Christmas celebrations, thrilled with the gifts you received, disappointed with the gifts you received, glad it’s over, sad it’s over… Whatever mood you are in right now, I know that after all that hustle and bustle leading up to Christmas day, you deserve a little break!

What’s even better than a hoppin’ holiday party? You being glam in that hoppin’ holiday party, of course! And don’t give me any old excuse that it’s just with some of your closest friends anyway or a bunch of relatives. Unacceptable! You’ve been a hardworking mommy all year long, forgotten to shower several times (admit it), and average only three hours of sleep per night! This is that one time when you can unleash your inner goddess and not have to explain yourself.

What’s a holiday without holiday food? One of my favorites has got to be meatballs! They’re yummy, easy to make and just about everybody loves it. It’s kind of nostalgic, too, as I remember helping my mom to make these for Christmas when I was a kid. Of course, my mom’s recipe is a huge family secret (We have all sworn to secrecy, sorry!) But I recently found a recipe in AllRecipes.com that approximates hers. Plus, it’s even easier. Since this season is all about sharing and giving, try this out yourself and tell me how it turns out!

While reading US News online today I came across an article that addresses concerns on every parents mind these days: swine flu. How do I prevent it and what do I do if they get it? A statistic from this article states that of 76,500 tweens tested (ages 10-14) a staggering 77 percent tested positive. Read the below article for more information about the swine flu vaccine and a mother’s frustrations with the whole ordeal.

Would you risk the horrors or stinky pet breathe to save your four legged friend’s life? That is the slightly silly question being answered in a poll conducted by the associated press. Nationwide, 1,166 pet owners were asked this question (among a few others): Would you be at least somewhat likely to perform CPR on your pet in the event of a medical emergency? For me the answer would be of course I would! Given that I had the proper CPR training, why wouldn’t I do everything in my power to save my pet’s life?

I came across a rather interesting article called “Battling Baby Baldness”. I was very intrigued to say the least. Apparently many babies who are too young to stand/sit on their own suffer from a small bald spot on the back of their head due to laying down all of the time.

Newnan mom Victoria Walton actually did, after her perfectly healthy baby girl, Amira, started losing a patch of delicate hair on the back of her head.

With August fast approaching us, you start to think, “Where did July go?” Or more so, “Where did summer go?” We tend to be so wrapped up in work, family, our children’s events and finding time for ourselves in the mix of it all that time flies by us. But there is still plenty of time left in August to get in fun, cheap activities you haven’t done yet this summer while still enjoying the sun and warm weather.
