Coral & Tusk Captures the Comfort and Art of India
Coral & Tusk: the name is mysterious, simple and elegant. In art, and often in life, less is said to be more, and Coral & Tusk has mastered this technique with the use of a minimalist design that gives just enough to leave children’s buyers curious, enthralled, but never impatient. Subtlety, thy name is Stephanie Housley…
…which happens to be the name of the creator of Coral & Tusk, started back in 2007 by Housley and her husband Chris Lacinak. These days, Housley lives and works in New York City specializing in woven fabrics as a textile designer, but for several months each year Housley also spends time in India designing textile collections. This travel experience has very clearly influenced her artistry, for many of Coral & Tusk’s products are made from hand-woven Indian cotton and feature culturally stylized depictions of animals, like giraffes and camels.
Along with a variety of pillows, artwork, décor and even kitchen aprons, Coral & Tusk’s children’s wear raises the bar with its unique one-pieces, dresses, and shirts. C&T’s gorgeous one-piece outfits are made from super soft cotton and feature a lovable pony, lamb, deer or elephant on the front. The button-down shirts and summer dresses are made from breathable Indian cotton, which is cool and lightweight. For less formal attire, the brand’s tee shirts are an excellent choice; shirts are white, orange or teal with a variety of quirky designs. One of the white tee shirts boasts a drawing of what appears to be a tiger and a panda high-fiving!
In addition to its animal and nature themes, Coral & Tusk also sails the briny with a swashbuckling seafaring theme. A fun selection of clothing, artwork, and pillows feature hungry whales, surly sailors, and wayfaring ships. There are toys for sale too — one of which is a cool pirate eye patch. Finger puppets and cloth play money are also among the unique offerings.
Stephanie Housley is a fine designer, and her work is worldly, wearable, and wonderful. Clothing comes in sizes 6-12 months, 2, 4, and 6.
