Big Court Win for MGA's Bratz Dolls

David Successfully Battles Goliath

MGA Entertainment, the tiny California company that developed the ethnically diverse, wildly popular Bratz dolls, triumphed by winning a federal lawsuit filed against it by toy giant Mattel. MGA was awarded more than $88 million in damages and maintains control of its Bratz line.

Mattel first sued MGA more than six years ago, claiming that the Bratz designer had been working for Mattel when he designed the dolls. By winning the long, drawn-out case, MGA continues to market its Bratz line that took markets by storm starting from its original introduction in 2001.

“I think justice prevailed in the end,” said MGA Chief Executive Isaac Larian, who wept openly in court when the verdict was announced.
