Lately Lily” Puts the “Tee” in Travels

For summer traveling or just hanging out, take note of a new line of tee shirts that celebrate fabulousness and adventures. Lately Lily is the star of the show, a curious girl who loves to visit foreign places accompanied by her bright yellow suitcase. The tees come in twenty-five versions, each with a hand-drawn graphic and a hand-drawn hangtag that details Lily’s thoughts on the places she’s visited. Tees are available sized from 2T up to 6 and are made of 100% soft cotton.

In one travelogue collection, Lily visits Peru in the southern city of Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca where she has an adventure with her friend Zeborah. There is a tee showing Lupe, an alpaca with a flower on her head; a tee with a colorful map of Peru itself; a shirt depicting the Peru Rail as it snakes back and forth in a series of hairpin turns and lots more, all signed by Lily.

Other tees show Lily in different guises, including Shy Lily in yellow with the heroine clad in a vibrantly striped skirt; one of Lily’s head with bright red hair, a yellow hair bow and big, dark eyes and tees with great graphics such as “I’ve been thinking of you” in bright colors as well as The Signal, depicting closed, fluttering eyelashes and the message “this means I love you.”

The Souvenir tee shows a grouping of bright necklaces, just what a shopper would pick up in Puno. Another shirt is enhanced with a big heart reading “Con Amor” (with love), while an orange model depicts balls of what Lily tells us is alpaca yarn with a tag explaining how the yarn is gathered and dyed.

Lily’s adventures give shoppers a way to bring home the gift of curiosity, a quality Lily has in abundance. The tees and tags are also a way to motivate kids to keep notes on the world around them. Lily is such an inquisitive young lady that she’s sure to visit other countries that will inspire new designs.

Author and illustrator Micah Player and Apparel Designer Erin Nichols created the fresh-spirited line as a homage to favorite, vintage picture books they remember fondly such as Madeline, Lyle the Crocodile and Curious George. The line starts as artist’s sketches and takes shape as the shirts are made by local vendors in Huntington Beach, CA.
