CPSC's Publicly Available Consumer Product Safety Information Database

CPSC is in the process of notifying manufactures of the Database and encouraging them to “register” a company representative who will receive information about complaints pertaining to their company’s products. I strongly encourage each of you to nominate and register such an individual so that you will have an opportunity to timely respond to any published complaint.

For your information, a press release from the CPSC announcing the Database is available on their website (www.cpsc.gov)

Below, announcements by CPSC relating to two upcoming CPSC webinars have been provided. The webinars will explain the Publicly Available Consumer Product Safety Information Database. The January 20 webinar may be of particular importance since CPSC staff will demonstrate how the Business Portal will work, and how you can register an account there.

Jan 11: CPSC staff will conduct a live Web conference to demonstrate key functions of the Publicly Available Consumer Product Safety Information Database (Database). CPSC staff will demonstrate how a consumer will be able to use the new online reporting form to submit a report of harm related to the use of a consumer product. In addition, CPSC staff will demonstrate how users can search the Database to find reports of harm and information about recalled products that may be in their homes already or that they may be considering purchasing.

Jan 20: CPSC staff will conduct a live Web conference to demonstrate key functions of the Publicly Available Consumer Product Safety Information Database (Database), including the new Business Portal. CPSC staff will demonstrate how a consumer will be able to use the new online reporting form to submit a report of harm related to the use of a consumer product, and how users can search the Database to find reports of harm and information about recalled consumer products. Additionally, CPSC staff will demonstrate how business users can register an account on the Business Portal. The Business Portal is designed to facilitate more efficient electronic notice, review, and comment on reports of harm before they are published in the Database. Manufacturers (including importers) and private labelers will be able to register an account on the Business Portal at this demonstration.
