Cities like Milan, Paris, Seoul, Tokyo, and New York are meccas of fashion. New York City is a destination spot for kids’ clothing with a distinctly elegant feel; rich colors, elegant earth tones, and fashion-forward prints mingle with revisionist takes on what it means to be a classic. New York designers know that they are catering to parents who desire clothing that speaks to the heartbeat of the city’s fashion scene, while still providing for comfort. Aioty Kids New York is known for its multi-patterned boho pieces: rich colors matched with exotic patterns that mix great together or as separates.

In a time when outsourcing is common, it’s a valuable point of differentiation to find companies that produce quality merchandise in the U.S.A. For expertly crafted, handmade children’s clothing that’s made to order; darling hats, headbands and other accessories that are hand stitched with love; and diaper bags and totes that are stylish as well as functional, consider this trio of brands all under the Gracious May corporate banner: Gracious May, Snugars and Bushka.

New York International Gift Fair - New York City, New York (8/18/12 - 8/23/12)

August’s New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF) was an opportunity for the best new children’s products to be recognized for their creativity. This year, the focus seemed to be on natural materials, particularly wood. Wooden toys are making a comeback after years of being upstaged by rubber, plastic, and other synthetics. Original art is also trending at the moment, and makes an appearance in books and other learning supplies that feature the work of professional artists. Here are some of the innovative companies that caught The Giggle Guide’s™ attention at this year’s event: OOTS!, Tree by Kerri Lee, Black Eyed Guy, and Home Grown Books.

Denim jeans are a testament to rugged, lasting fashion. They never go completely out of style and they can go from a day at school to the playground to dinner with the relatives, all with a simple change of shirt. Keeping denim chic fresh is an art unto itself that requires a company willing to push the boundaries, while holding on to the classic styling that everyone loves. Kiniki, an Australian company with a global reach, has melded the enduring classics parents like with the edgy fashion that children enjoy.

There are a lot of great trends to sift through this season. We have culled some newbies to bring retailers a few of the market innovations that carry perfect designs for display throughout the fall and winter seasons. Focus holiday shoppers on earrings with a practical twist from Triple Sweet; continue the accessory trend with matching head and toe bumbums; show off a classical yet playful look with Olivia & Owen; and offer doll lovers of any age a modern Lille Huset dollhouse.

The diversity of businesses that offer juvenile products made in the U.S.A. is broad, but each has the same interests at heart. It’s for the kids. A few of the companies that have made the commitment are The Fig Orchard, Heather Hill Clothing, Funkie Baby and Nest Designs. Their products range from beautiful hair accessories and designer clothing to baby necessities and organic one-pieces. All are proud to proclaim, “Made in America.”

We may be dating ourselves, but some of us recall in horror when we looked down and saw a hole in our jeans. It meant only one thing: a patch. A patch that never quite matched the denim. The times they are a-changing! And leading that change are Scabs, fun and permanent stick-on fabric patches from Grab a Scab, Inc. that come in so many affordable varieties, parents won’t mind when junior rolls up with yet another tear in his pair.
