We’ve heard it time and again: “the customer is king.” But thanks to what can euphemistically be called a “sluggish” economy over the last few years, too many retailers and manufacturers have decided to let shoppers call the shots. The result is a marketplace that looks defeated, offering safe products instead of innovation. Rather than newness, we’re getting sameness because everyone’s afraid consumers won’t give new ideas a sporting chance.

Brixy, the new trade association for independently owned stores in the juvenile industry, has taken another step in preparing to launch on January 2, 2013. Today the organization formally announced its membership criteria and timeline for accepting applications. “Our focus is on helping juvenile brick and mortar stores to grow and thrive,” explained Executive Director Jill Cartwright as she outlined the membership criteria.

A few of the brands that captured the attention of The Giggle Guide’s Leesa Valentino included Sili, Neon Tiki Tribe, Okkatots, and Kidsme.

Recently style watchers have been preoccupied with Coachella, the music and art festival that wrapped up last weekend. These days the event is almost as well known for its see-and-be-seen street style snaps as it is for mashing up different genres from hip hop to electronica.
