Teeth are milestone markers for parents and kids alike. Painful coming in and sometimes coming out, we all know brushing and flossing is crucial to keeping pain away in between. Anyone who has tried to teach a wriggling toddler how to properly swish and spit knows a lot more toothpaste ends up in gullets than in the sink. Thankfully that worry is lessened with natural toothpastes such as Jack N’ Jill. Made in Melbourne, Australia starting in 1949, the toothpaste is 100% safe for young children. Flavors like banana, blackcurrant, blueberry, raspberry and strawberry make for fruity fun.

The understanding of waste in our garments is growing, and customers are starting to ask about the origin of their wardrobe. Kallio started as a consciously-minded kidswear brand out of Brooklyn, NY. After working in the fashion industry, Karina Kallio saw firsthand how much waste there was. Roughly 85% of textile waste ends up in landfills, enough material to recreate the Rocky Mountains. Kallio offers a respite from that reality by repurposing men’s shirts into unexpected modern classics that are wearable and delightful. Kallio is all about local, including sourcing high-quality fabrics that are hand cut in their Brooklyn studio.

When Paul Barton’s sister got pregnant, he and his wife, Sandy, discovered a gap in the children’s market. They searched for baby clothes that were both fashionable and sustainable, but couldn’t find anything that they liked. Clothes produced in an ethical manner all seemed to be frumpy and boring, whereas the cutest baby clothes were in no way sustainable. When the couple discovered they had a baby of their own on the way, they decided to take on the challenge themselves. Spence Baby was born, named after their new little girl, Spencer Grace.

Over thirty years ago, Becky Cannon asked herself how she could provide natural care both inside and out for her future family. She spent the next three years studying and teaching young children about natural foods in Japan. There she had her daughter Emi. After moving back to the States and preparing for the birth of her second daughter, Mari, she missed the unique baby products she discovered in Japan. Soon, Cannon started importing diaper covers from Japan to make them available for other parents. Today, Cannon and her daughters are the mother-daughter owners of i play.®, as they continue to focus on creating the best baby-friendly products.

The Made in USA label has always meant durability, local design and processing. Now it can also indicate stylish, modern and organic designs unique enough to be featured in your store. Beautiful beasts come out of Brooklyn with Snuggly Ugly dolls and décor that add flair to nurseries. Clever child nicknames gave birth to nini & pumpkin and their moon cocoon wearable duvet. Young ladies get the royal treatment with the Ecoprincess line of makeup and bath products by Organic Beauty Now. Take note of Tree by Kerri Lee for a handmade movement in music that will replace plastic music boxes forever.

Anyone who has been involved in a bambino eating session knows that it can be incredibly frustrating as food flies and tempers — both child and adult — are lost. To smooth the mealtime process, show your customers a brand-new product that keeps little ones engaged at the table while encouraging healthier eating habits. The secret is the Munch-Mates Meal Set by Modern-twist: a three-piece bowl, lid and toddler-sized tumbler cup that fits perfectly into those little hands.

If parents could give their kids a boost in language skills at a very early age, would they try it? That’s the mission behind Creative Baby and its extended line of educational products that offers baby steps in exposing tots to phonics, foreign languages, geography and nature. Their award-winning foam i-Mats –– where pictures “talk” to youngsters when touched with a Voice Pen™ –– expand with two new play mats, Alphabet i-Mat ($29.99 MSRP) and Under The Sea i-Mat ($29.99). It’s time for another crop of products proudly made in the U.S.A. Innovation has long been the benchmark of American products. Many American companies have designed products that put them ahead of the times, ensuring that their goods will impress prospective customers and securing their place in the business world. This fact is no less true for companies that produce products made for babies and children. Logan and Lenora, bZipt, theMINIclassy and Sweet Cottontail are all bringing something fresh and new to the world of children’s products.
