Why a Dolphin is the Logo for Happy Heinys

Happy Heinys, a manufacturer of made in U.S.A. reusable diapering products and natural parenting accessories, has had a blue dolphin on its corporate emblem since its beginning in 19)). Owner Linda Byerline has often been asked about this symbol from nature and how it relates to her company. Until now, she has not publicly revealed the story behind the inspirational dolphin.

In her own words, Linda Byerline tells the tale of the Happy Heinys dolphin and how it can be a reminder of life’s best virtues and lessons: The simple answer is, I just likes dolphins! However, the surprising life lesson behind the label is much more profound, as Linda shares her philosophy, “I have always been a lover of dolphins and living in San Diego my whole life it’s hard not to be. To me, the dolphin depicts many aspects of a good life: unconditional love, absolute beauty, friendliness, need for companionship, a playful, child-like spirit and freedom. The freedom to do and live with all of the above, without anyone thinking you’re nuts!

What Can We Do to Be More Carefree and Loving?

I just expect that dolphins naturally possess these qualities that we as humans strive for. If a creature of the sea is able to accomplish these so easily, then why can’t I? We were at the local beach the other day and several pods of dolphins swam super close by where people were swimming. I witnessed a look of amazement in the children’s eyes, as they rushed from their spot in the water, to my once dry and non-sandy spot, to tell me that the dolphins were there! When I am in that situation, I always think about the dolphin’s virtues and I look at how I parent, how I behave as a friend, how I behave as a lover and companion. I try to remember it is OK to play like a child, even as middle age quietly knocks on my door.”
I want to be more naturally dolphin-like. I want to be a good example of this ‘way of life” for my three children. Dolphins do these things so eloquently and without question. It is their nature. I admire them and strive to have a similar fun-loving nature as well. I don’t always succeed, but as long as I keep trying I know someday I may just possess all of the attributes that I highly regard as the best attributes in the world!
