K.I.D.S. Launches First Annual “MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY TIMES TEN” to Help Support Local Communities

For Every Dollar Donated in October, K.I.D.S. to Contribute 10X the Amount in New Merchandise to Donors’ Hometown Charities

In support of local communities and the annual national service event “Make A Difference Day,” Kids In Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) today announced the launch of its first annual “Make A Difference Day Times Ten.” For every dollar that is donated to K.I.D.S. throughout the month of October, K.I.D.S. will contribute to the donor’s hometown ten times that amount in the form of new merchandise.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to provide product to local communities, we wanted to offer people another option of giving back,” said K.I.D.S. President Dr. Janice Weinman. “As we celebrate neighbors helping neighbors, we are so pleased to be launching this initiative in conjunction with “Make a Difference Day,” the largest national day of community service.”

Some of the ways K.I.D.S. may utilize donations during “Make A Difference Day Times Ten” could include:

  • If $10 is donated from Northern New Jersey, $100 worth of books will be donated to a Newark library or after school program.
  • If $50 is donated from Los Angeles, $500 worth of new clothing will be donated to a homeless shelter on Skid Row.
  • If $100 is donated from Indianapolis, $1,000 worth of new cribs will be donated to provide safe sleep environments to families with newborns in Indianapolis.
  • If $500 is donated from Dallas, $5,000 worth of new toys will be donated to ill children in hospitals like The Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

All “Make A Difference Day Times Ten” donors will be featured on the K.I.D.S. website. Donations may be multiplied by twenty times if an employer matches the gift. To see if a specific employer participates in the matching gift program with K.I.D.S., please call 212.279.5493, extension 208.

The 20th Annual “Make A Difference Day” will take place on Saturday, October 23rd. Last year, three million volunteers came together for the event to help their communities. “Make A Difference Day” was created by USA WEEKEND and is sponsored by HandsOn Network. This national day of service occurs annually on the fourth Saturday of October.
