K.I.D.S. Continues to Help Struggling Families in Japan

Mayumi, age 9, huddles together with her family in a shelter in Miyagi, Japan. They have only the clothes they are wearing and a few blankets for warmth. “We have been here since Friday. It’s cold and I want a bath,” says Mayumi.

Mayumi’s father, Shiro said that his family moved into the shelter when the tsunami destroyed their home. “The whole house is destroyed. All dishes are broken. Everything around the house is under water. We have lost everything.”

Mayumi has not seen her house since the morning when the tsunami struck. Her mother says, “I don’t want to show my children what has happened to our home. I don’t know how they will handle it.” All Mayumi wants is to see her friends again and go home. “I miss my home and my friends so much,” she says. Her brother, Souta, age 8, also wants to go home. “I just want to play with my toys, but maybe I won’t be able to find them,” he says with a sigh.

Shiro, and his wife Ayako, find it difficult to keep their children occupied all day long in the cardboard boxes they now call home, so they sometimes venture outside for a walk. “We have to get out of the shelter, but it is very cold outside and it is snowing a lot.”

K.I.D.S. conducted a packing party to get pajamas ready to be shipped overseas. See the video of the pajama collection here: http://manhattan.ny1.com/content/136144/local-organizations-collect-pjs-…

For every $1 donated, we can get $10 worth of brand new pajamas, blankets, water, apparel and shoes to the children who need it most. Please donate today.
