K.I.D.S. Supports Japan Earthquake/Tsunami Children's Fund
About 350,000 people have reportedly been left homeless in Japan and are staying in shelters, awaiting news of friends and relatives among the many thousands who remain unaccounted for. Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.), the internationally renowned charity, and other humanitarian groups are rushing aid to Japan in the wake of this humanitarian, economic and nuclear crisis.
K.I.D.S. is staging initial relief efforts from Indonesia and throughout Asia as officials work to contain radiation exposure at Japan’s nuclear power plants and reopen the ports. In the hours following the record-breaking quake, K.I.D.S. alerted both its corporate and individual donors with a call for support. Urgently needed items, such as vitamins, water, blankets, undergarments, baby items and apparel are being collected and K.I.D.S. is working with its not-for-profit partners to ensure that shipments quickly reach affected children and families.
Janice Weinman, president of K.I.D.S says “Financial gifts have the greatest impact. We will use those gifts to help deliver product donations to shelters and agency partners in Northern Japan. Our response team will keep a close eye on the increasing need and respond accordingly.”
