The chaotic mind state that follows the birth of a baby can make it difficult for parents to keep any semblance of a regular schedule. While technology has given us products to make many parts of life easier and more efficient, it hasn’t done much to ease the effects of “baby brain”…. until now. The Pocket Nanny by Itzbeen Innovated, Inc. is an electronic device that helps parents keep track of daily baby care tasks. This compact, lightweight gadget combines multiple features to create an all-in-one time management system.

Given today’s educational climate, many shoppers want a fun way to encourage kids’ interest in science, but so many games on the market are ultra-complicated and few appeal to all ages and generations. There’s a new brand, na2ure, bringing games that are gorgeous to behold, PhD-vetted and eco-conscious –– a triple positive whammy. The na2ure library includes three beautifully designed games that will fascinate your customers: the Ani-gram-it board game, Ani-gram-it To Go and ferret.

The understanding of waste in our garments is growing, and customers are starting to ask about the origin of their wardrobe. Kallio started as a consciously-minded kidswear brand out of Brooklyn, NY. After working in the fashion industry, Karina Kallio saw firsthand how much waste there was. Roughly 85% of textile waste ends up in landfills, enough material to recreate the Rocky Mountains. Kallio offers a respite from that reality by repurposing men’s shirts into unexpected modern classics that are wearable and delightful. Kallio is all about local, including sourcing high-quality fabrics that are hand cut in their Brooklyn studio.

School is back in session and some of that summer brain drain is showing up in full force. As kids struggle to adjust to new schedules and schools, your store can help bring them back to basics with NumbersAlive! After more than 30 years of working with and teaching about numbers, Dr. Rebecca Klemm founded NumbersAlive!, an innovative framework for demystifying numbers and math. Presented as fun and friendly characters rather than complicated facts and figures, numbers come alive outside of math in areas like art, science, architecture, sports, nature, culture, and folklore.

Over thirty years ago, Becky Cannon asked herself how she could provide natural care both inside and out for her future family. She spent the next three years studying and teaching young children about natural foods in Japan. There she had her daughter Emi. After moving back to the States and preparing for the birth of her second daughter, Mari, she missed the unique baby products she discovered in Japan. Soon, Cannon started importing diaper covers from Japan to make them available for other parents. Today, Cannon and her daughters are the mother-daughter owners of i play.®, as they continue to focus on creating the best baby-friendly products.

Recently, I was at a department store (that will remain nameless) on the hunt for — what else? — shoes to wear to trade shows. Half the place was crazy with shoppers buzzing around the end-of-season sandal sale. Sales help swarmed all around that area but in the full-price section where I was, it was deserted. No shoppers. And no sales people. Finally, I flagged a guy down, but he immediately announced that his handheld scanner didn’t work so he couldn’t help me. When I asked him to give me a hand with finding someone else, his response was to glance around listlessly and shrug before wandering off. Seriously? A shrug?

If parents could give their kids a boost in language skills at a very early age, would they try it? That’s the mission behind Creative Baby and its extended line of educational products that offers baby steps in exposing tots to phonics, foreign languages, geography and nature. Their award-winning foam i-Mats –– where pictures “talk” to youngsters when touched with a Voice Pen™ –– expand with two new play mats, Alphabet i-Mat ($29.99 MSRP) and Under The Sea i-Mat ($29.99). ABC Kids Expo (Sept. 6-10, Las Vegas) attendees can try out each of these pieces at Booth #3625.

One of the most important sections of the Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA) is 15 (b) [15 U.S.C. §2064]. It requires manufacturers, distributors, importers and retailers of a consumer product that contains a defect, which could create a substantial product hazard or creates an unreasonable risk of serious injury or death, to immediately report the relevant information to the Commission. Through the years, including the twenty year period when I was Director of Compliance and Enforcement, the reporting obligation has proven to contribute enormously to public safety.

Take a pinch of magic, wish hard and get transported to a far away land where children stay young forever. That is the spirit behind a book that is a sure-fire fave designed to win the hearts of kids, especially girls aged six to ten. The Never Girls: A Pinch of Magic is the seventh entry and newest in the blockbuster series by writer Kiki Thorpe who has already rocked the pre-teen world with the earlier Never Girls books including The Space Between, A Dandelion Wish and The Space Beyond. Thorpe sets the stage for wishing, dreaming and, most of all, reading — an activity parents are beyond thrilled to have their daughters pursue.

Many families with children understand the struggles of raising a picky eater. Some younger kids may only be interested in one or two dishes, while others will only eat food of specific colors or shapes. In older children, pickiness tends to be more about resistance to change, leading to an unwillingness to try unfamiliar foods. Parents of a picky eater generally want to fix the situation, but find that forcing the issue with threats and punishments is no use; they either have to wait it out or inspire the child to make a change using fun, interactive methods. The latter option is the premise of Joanne Oppenheim’s The Prince’s Breakfast.
