The Biz: The Grapevine

Editorial Director’s Product Picks Here’s Part 2 of what caught my attention on a recent visit to the California Market Center, located in the heart of the garment district in downtown Los Angeles. The 6th floor is the showplace for everything in-fashion for children. Most of the permanent showrooms are members of the Kids on 6 co-op association. As you enter your open-to-buy season, make this a must-see destination. If buyers pick up a few new lines, they can reap a “gold mine” for their stores. You can also learn more about sales reps thru the easy-to-search Guide on The Giggle Guide™. Checking out sales rep showrooms in advance can help you plan your shopping itinerary. Tell them The Giggle Guide™ sent you! And let us know your discoveries!

Confused? Lonely? Insecure? Afraid to try new things? Happens to everyone. Maybe even a child you know! Now there’s Worry Woos, a new book series, with plush companions, to help children embrace many of the emotions that make us human. Monsters show us the way!

Entrepreneurial mom of 3, Lily, had enough and developed the Padalily, a stylish pad for the handle of a carseat. It adds comfort and style to the otherwise plain and uncomfortable handle. Welcome relief for moms that struggle to carry a car seat or infant carrier into stores, restaurants, and doctors’ offices.

Every parent knows the struggles of dining out with a baby. Food ends up on the floor, all over the table, and rarely in baby’s mouth. Tired of playing the drop-it-and-pick-it-up game, many parents opt to stay home.

For those parents who want to dine with baby without all the mess and stress, the Neatnik Saucer is your answer. While nothing short of a miracle will keep baby from making the messes, the Neatnik Saucer allows Mom and Dad to relax knowing that baby is safe from germs and the restaurant is safe from baby!

When Dr. Jane Ross, PsyD., a child psychologist and early development specialist noticed that children who practice multi-stage learning are engaged for longer periods of time and develop small motor skills at an earlier age, the idea for BuckleyBoo was born.

During the recent June market week, I visited a few showrooms on the 6th floor at the California Market Center, Los Angeles. There is so much new product to see and discover, a buyer could easily spend several days shopping and not see it all. I visited several showrooms that are members of Kids on 6, a co-op association of permanent showrooms at the California Market Center, Los Angeles. They work together to promote the many benefits retailers find year-round on the 6th floor. I noticed that all the showrooms have spiffed up their product displays, added welcoming touches for retailers, and have added new products from their existing brands, while adding new lines, especially in gift and non-seasonal products.

Here is Part 1 of my personal picks from my recent visit:

Almost every new mother that attempts to breastfeed struggles with a reality that is much more confusing and difficult than she ever imagined. Moms of multiples face an even steeper climb to the bliss of “established breastfeeding.” With the unbelievable demands of a newborn, caring for multiples can make breastfeeding seem impossible.

With multiples comes a unique set of challenges which may include prematurity, low birth weight, and skyrocketing costs. Considering both the health and cost benefits, it is no wonder many moms of multiples wish to breastfeed their babies.
