Beth Clampitt from Dallas is nothing like the Clampetts on the TV classic who struck oil, black gold, and headed to the Hills of Beverly. But she does enjoy a “rich” life and business, blessed by sons, friends, ideal business partners and a lot of very satisfied retailers and cozy napping children! Since 2001, Beth has been president of My NapPak, which designs and markets toteable, all-in-one pillow, comforter and attached fleece blanket for kids who take naps.

Linda Byerline, matriarch of Happy Heinys, the family-owned-and-operated business that for over nine years has designed and manufactured reusable cloth diapering products, . . . quite simply does not take crap from anyone! I’m happy to know this highness of Heinys, as I greatly admire her commitment to environmental issues and natural parenting, her compassion and actions that help others at home and abroad, her support of made in U.S.A, pride, empowerment of other working mothers and her super-mom powers as a there-for-them wife and parent. Plus, seeing her makes me, well, happier!

Kids In Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.), the internationally renowned children’s charity, will kick off its 25th Anniversary year with the 4th Annual Women in Industry Luncheon honoring three women of achievement for their support of children in need. Being honored are: Elyse Kroll, Chairman & CEO of the fashion trade show company ENK International; Liz Lange, Founder of Liz Lange Maternity, Completely Me by Liz Lange and Shopafrolic.com; and Christina Miller, Senior Vice President of Turner Sports & Cartoon Network Enterprises.

Congratulations to Marlo Hoffman and Lisa Starbuck, co-founders of PsychoBaby in Chicago that celebrated its seventh anniversary earlier this May! This one-of-a-kinda-crazy brick and mortar kids’ store also now counts the Internet as its worldwide territory. The store is fun, funky, wild, original and a celebration of all things that are hipper, cooler, trendier, edgier and as unique as children’s individual personalities and creative outlooks.

It was the strangest thing… I was reading through tweets one day and came across this from Krista Colvin (@KristaColvin)

Normally I wouldn’t click on links because I don’t have a lot of time. I’m so easily distracted that I literally have 19 tabs open in 2 different browsers. I even downloaded a third browser “just in case.” Anyway, back to the point…

“Children should only be hungry for an education.” These are the moving words of Olivia Marjoram, founder of Share Your Lunch Projects. Statistics show that every 6 seconds another child in our world dies as a result of hunger. This ominous reality moved Olivia to do her part to help raise the odds for children living in third world countries. In 2009, she founded the Share Your Lunch Projects organization, with the mission to feed impoverished children at least one nourishing meal per day.

Friends and fellow dog lovers Sandi Hochman and Jonathan Cathey got together to form Lucky Puppy to celebrate the love people have for “man’s best friend” by offering apparel for kids and folks who believe, like Charlie Brown, that happiness is a warm puppy. The “dog”-tag line for Lucky Puppy says it all — “Nothing But Cute.” Sandi Hochman shares with The Giggle Guide® her inspiration to start the lifestyle store that has become a well-known brand. Lucky Puppy is a fitting name, as the company actively helps to find new families for homeless dogs.

I met Angela Edgeworth, president and founder of pediped Footwear, in 2005 at her first gift trade show. We hit it off quickly as Angela was very open to sharing her new venture and I was only too willing to give her my two cents worth of trade show wisdom. (I remember that she made me aware of the potential to sell children’s products and gifts to upscale car washes!) At our first meeting we began what has grown into a very nice business friendship, based on mutual respect, admiration and appreciation of our ability to help each other in our respective businesses.

Self-esteem is a big issue for girls today. Television, advertising, and even everyday expectations from parents, school, and friends put a lot of pressure on tween through teen girls. A healthy dose of hope and encouragement can help these young ladies strengthen their self-esteem and more easily cope with everyday “coming-of-age” challenges. The Giggle Guide® has found two terrific companies that offer products designed to encourage positive thinking for young girls: Zorbitz and Blessed Bracelets.

When it comes to finding a path to help children in need, many shoe manufacturers are stepping in the right direction. Several children’s shoe companies have taken giant leaps to support their favorite charities and programs. pediped, See Kai Run, and MooShu Trainers are perfect examples of companies who give back in a way that helps kids and families, and also builds the quality reputation of their brands.
