I first met Claire Ekelund, co-founder of Bébé au Lait, about 8 years ago when she introduced her collection of designer breastfeeding covers, which was a first in what became a new product category for nursing mothers. I loved that she had the practical sense of humor to name her creation “Hooter Hiders,” which was brilliant too because it quickly told the function of the product, which previously had not been so fashionably conceived. The company, Bébé au Lait, has evolved into a multi-line brand that is equally known for its fashion and function.

Everyone loves the tooth fairy! Losing those first few baby teeth is a rite of passage to kids, another milestone to growing up. Who hasn’t seen the unmistakable grin of a kid showing off his loose tooth, and later a toothless smile? Parents have celebrated this event with tales of the Tooth Fairy for generations. This whimsical story, The Tale of the Tooth Fairy, gives kids a glimpse into the magical world of fairies and the endearing story of how the Tooth Fairy got her job. Not only is the story enchanting, but the product makes a perfect gift.

Sister-in-laws Debbie Horwits and Charlie Weir wanted to start a company that would utilize their creative skills. As the mother of four daughters, Charlie wanted to be their role model as a female entrepreneur. She felt with the tough financial times that the idea of starting a business was more relevant than ever. Debbie and Charlie started Drama in 2010, selling mostly girl’s accessories and novelty items. They are now moving towards carrying a full garment line with a selection of beautiful accessories. Drama focuses on creating fun textures without compromising the simplicity that keeps babies and children most comfortable.

Everyone knows that a baby’s soft skin is delicate. Little ones suffer from a number of external irritants that wouldn’t affect adults, because an adult’s outer layer of skin is more developed. While problems like diaper rash are common issues, the increased permeability of baby’s skin also means that more irritants can pass through it. Wouldn’t it be great to provide products that give your customers peace of mind and help little ones stay comfortable? Safe, non-toxic products that protect infants and toddlers, such as the lotions from BabySpa, may just be what the doctor ordered.

For our first BooBoo blog post, we thought it would be a good idea to share with you how the idea of BooBoo Kids came about. We talk about it a bit on our web site, but want to go into a little more detail on here. It’s a question that we get asked often, so here’s how it happened…

It all started out as a normal sunny day in August until I received a phone call that my 3-year-old great niece fell off the couch and broke her arm. Then, the very next weekend, I was out with my husband and we got a call that my 4-year-old granddaughter was in the Emergency Room with a broken leg.

New York International Gift Fair - New York City, New York (8/18/12 - 8/23/12)

August’s New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF) was an opportunity for the best new children’s products to be recognized for their creativity. This year, the focus seemed to be on natural materials, particularly wood. Wooden toys are making a comeback after years of being upstaged by rubber, plastic, and other synthetics. Original art is also trending at the moment, and makes an appearance in books and other learning supplies that feature the work of professional artists. Here are some of the innovative companies that caught The Giggle Guide’s™ attention at this year’s event: OOTS!, Tree by Kerri Lee, Black Eyed Guy, and Home Grown Books.
