Phillips Nizer Welcomes David Schmeltzer as a Special Consultant for Consumer Products Safety Compliance Matters

New York law firm, Phillips Nizer, welcomed David “Dave” Schmeltzer as a Special Consultant for consumer products safety compliance matters in late spring 2011. Dave has a wealth of experience and will be working closely with Jeremy Richardson, a partner at Phillips Nizer in the firm’s Fashion Practice, who devotes a significant amount of his legal practice on children’s apparel, accessories and furniture.

Dave was previously at the Consumer Product Safety Commission for 20 years, first as an Assistant General Counsel and then Deputy General Counsel, where he was instrumental in most aspects of the CPSC’s rule making activities and interpretations of the new law. Dave was then appointed as the CPSC’s Director of Compliance. In that role he supervised the enforcement of all the Commission’s regulations, monitored investigations of potentially dangerous defective products, negotiated voluntary corrective actions to address substantial hazards, reviewed the adequacy of voluntary and mandatory consumer recalls and assessed civil penalties for violations of the Commission’s laws and regulations.
