Sugar and spice and everything nice, that’s what little babies are made of. No one understands this better than the folks behind the Teresa Alecrim brand who started the business back in 1981, in Lisbon, Portugal. Portuguese textile design has long been heralded at the top of the class. Delicate stitchery shows off exquisite designs including kids enjoying a jump rope session, a train, ducks, a friendly bear, a rocking bassinet, a little duck and a galaxy of stars to watch over baby. One design in pink and green proclaims “Bebe”, Spanish for — you guessed it — baby.

Parents are seeking and demanding a greater selection of natural, organic products for their children. The essence of the organic and natural movement is purity. Babies and toddlers are extremely susceptible to toxins in their environment, much more so than adults. Statistics from 2010 alone show that consumers opened their wallets to the sum of $28.6 billion for organics –– and the trend is only getting stronger. Original Baby Company is dedicated to providing original, high-quality children’s products that help meet the demand for a variety of useful organic innovations.

If you can run a marathon you understand owning a business.

A few years ago I was responsible for a team of sales people to help them grow
their businesses and I went to a training to better my ability with developing
a strong sales force. There the leader of the class said, “If you can run a
marathon you understand what it is like to be in sales.” Well prior to that
position I had never done sales nor had I run a marathon so I took her advice
literally and now 5 years later I recently completed my 5th marathon.

Parents are more conscious than ever about making their child’s life as green and healthy as possible, right from the start. Many more consumers are also determined to do business with companies who support “fair trade,” ensuring that everyone in the supply chain, from the cotton farmers to the pattern cutters and everyone in between will be treated fairly, paid a fair wage and work in a clean environment. A good example of brands that support these environmental and socially responsible virtues are Green Kids and Green Baby.

In a life with kids it follows that there are plenty of bumps and scrapes. The motto of the me4kidz team is “fix it, clean it, back to play,” that aptly describes how their line of first aid kits and products specially designed for the younger set works. According to Safe Kids USA, more than 3.5 million children aged fourteen and younger have sports and recreation-related injuries every year. To cope with these problems, the family-owned company devised the medi-products so that first aid can be given as soon as it’s needed.

Homemakers, especially those with children, grandchildren, and other little relations afoot, are diligent about keeping things clean. The urge to sanitize merges with a concern for eco-friendly products that are gentle on people and the planet. Pollutants in the home may not be as obvious as clouds of smoke and smog in the sky, but since there are chemical toxins in homes that impact air supply, it’s smart to use organic products for household cleaning. Educate your customers and become a resource to find these brands that are both organically clean and get the dirty work done: Fields Organics, MomSpit, Grandma’s Secret Spot Remover and Poo-Pourri.

Bellefit Maternity is a leading medical brand in post-pregnancy girdles and corsets, specializing in postpartum garments to help women recover from both natural birth and c–section. Bellefit post-pregnancy girdles and corsets help keep the uterus firm as it is returning to its pre-pregnancy size. Women experience pain and cramps after birth as the uterus works to achieve this. The pains are often much worse in subsequent pregnancies because the uterus needs to compensate even more for the previous stretching. Bellefit garments help to ease this pain and make birth recovery easier.

Most companies would be hard-put to identify the current economic season as a boom-time. However, there have been some bright spots in the current economy, largely thanks to small and medium sized businesses. It’s all about who you know and how you get your message out there, which is a long-standing reason that so many independent manufacturers foster relationships with experienced sales representative associations.Three sales rep firms that are thriving, Carolina Baby, The Coffs, and Annette & Associates, demonstrate how they help other companies flourish.
