Happy New Year! For retailers, January signals the start of the gift-buying season and a national round of trade events focused on what’s new in the gift market. Since children’s gifts are one of the most resilient product categories, buyers are encouraged to support the gift shows and discover ways to start or expand their gift selections. Here’s a preview of the first gift show of the season, The Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, January 6-13 at AmericasMart. Also see January’s Trade Show Calendar on The Giggle Guide® to plan your gift-buying schedule.

Colors can affect mood and reflect our personalities, both in what we wear and the palette chosen in our homes. Using paint, we can enhance our living environments with an endless spectrum of hues, and the classic white walls of the past are becoming awash in a myriad of color. Color is therapeutic. Studies show, for example, that spending just 15 minutes in a pink room can noticeably reduce depression, while green can significantly reduce levels of anxiety.

Just thought I send a Holiday Greeting of Ba Humgug! to the Postal worker who stole four shipments of art two weeks ago from me. And to the Postal Service as well who completely acts oblivious to it all. My items were even insured and had tracking. And this is their answer, ” Well…we just can’t locate them.” “We will contact you when they are found.” Yeah right!

Just what I need when I’m preparing for a solo Hawk show next week.
Have a great day!

Finding children’s products manufactured in the United States can be difficult. Luckily, the book Made Here, Baby!, by Bruce H. Wolk, does exactly that. The Giggle Guide® found five companies featured in the book that have been operating in the United States for more than 100 years: Fexible Flyer, Amana Woolen Mill, The Original American Kazoo Company, Johnson Woolen Mills and Whitney Brothers.

Hectic schedule is the story of my life these days. I’m busy painting and preparing for my first solo art show on Dec. 11th. Hawk will center stage and I’m so excited. My personal life is full also. My boys are finishing up their football seasons, wrestling season is starting, and my husband just finished his Master’s Degree. We are so proud of him. He walks this Friday night and I’m hosting a huge PARTY for him this weekend…which I’m trying to get ready for as well.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween…I did.
Even Garrett came over to say hello or scare me. He’s the little boy on my website.
He cracks me up! Love you G!

Of course, my kids thought it would be fun scaring little boys and girls this year.

My son Austin carved this pumpkin….he did a great job!

Hello everyone! This week I’ll be adding a lot of cool and pretty items to my Etsy shop.
Some of which are these adorable little mini art ornaments. They are simply perfect all year for art to adorn your wall. Then during holiday time, place them on your tree.
So keep a look out:) Have a great day! Marnie V.

Lisa Lloyd, owner of Treasure Chest Pets, went swimming with The Sharks at a time when her business was treading water. On October 6, she appeared on the ABC show, Shark Tank, and confidently negotiated a deal with two of the “shark” investors, Barbara Corcoran and Daymond John. The investment contract will provide her business with the supportive experience of the investors, substantial investment capital and improved distribution and manufacturing services, in exchange for equity in her company.

Well, it happened. I just found out yesterday by a fellow artist who was also copied that my art was being sold on another website. Not only was she taking my design, but the idiot actually forgot to photoshop out my signature from the photo she stole from me. Do you see it here…”the Ballad of Sir Lucky Lion”…that’s mine. Straight from my own website J.AUSTINRyan.

Taking bedtime by the hand is a company called The Incredibeds, started by father and visionary Jeremy Maloney, who believed that bedtime didn’t have to remain something for kids to balk at. Tired of looking all over the house for his son’s favorite stuffed animals, in an effort to make sleeping more appealing, he imagined what it would be like for parents if the comforting presence of a stuffed friend was impossible to lose! Thus, Incredibeds was launched, and a new, appealing way of settling kids into bed was born.
