It takes a parent of steel to face a mountain of plastic kids’ dishware and address the environmental and health risks from PVC, BPA and melamine in plastics. Pretty Govindji began to educate herself on pesticides and chemicals and the role they play in the food supply chain. The bottom line: What she served her children’s food on was just as important as the food itself. Govindji enlisted her friend and fellow mom, Tess Brennan, and together they made it their mission to create versatile kids’ dishware products made of high-quality, food-grade stainless steel — Kangovou.

All Baby & Child Spring Educational Conference - Las Vegas, Nevada (5/7/13 - 5/9/13)

“This year’s educational sessions were sponsored by Brixy® and were the best ever,” explains Larry Schur, president of All Baby & Child. The 5th Annual ABC Spring Educational Conference, held in Las Vegas from May 7-9, attracted the largest number of exhibiters and attendees to date for the spring event. “The three networking events were the main attractions, and we received an overwhelming number of positive comments about the quality of the events.” Over 160 retailers attended the conference, representing 301 buyers. Some companies that got in on the action were Kore Design, Ragtales, Béaba and Rubens Barn.

Making wise use of our resources is a necessity, and necessity is the mother of invention. The green trend seems to be reviving grass roots entrepreneurship and small, local businesses because handmade, unique products are gaining ground over mass-produced items. You no longer need a big factory to produce a best-selling children’s toy or clothing item; all you need are starting resources, natural materials, and a great idea. The following companies have all the right components: Miracle Mittens, Skylar Luna, Zodiac Baby and Squooshi.

We are excited to announce that registration is now open to manufacturers for the 6th Annual All Baby & Child Spring Educational Conference & Trade Show, being held May 20-22, 2014 in Orlando, Florida!

Any place there are a lot of kids, there’s usually a ton of fun. There’s also a lot of chaos. Think of the last kids’ party you were at: The hostess hands out bottles of water. Kids drink deeply, toss the container on the table, and run off to play. They come back throughout playtime to grab a drink, but it doesn’t always end up in the same place on the table. Some kids solve this by just drinking whatever is nearest, creating a hazmat situation right in some unsuspecting parent’s backyard. Of course, one way to solve this kind of problem is by having the labeling products from Kidaroo Crew on hand to help each child identify his or her own beverage.

According to a survey by the Consumer Reports National Research Center, if shoppers were allowed to choose between a U.S.-made product and something identical made abroad, 78% of people opted for the American product. The reasons? Many respondents cited a wish to keep American manufacturing strong. Others expressed concern about the use of cheap labor overseas, and still others felt that American-produced goods were better quality. The Giggle Guide® spotlights products made in the USA, including: Royal Baby, Dreamspun, Suoak and Polka Dot Moon.

Attending a panel discussion presented about how retailers can better work with bloggers and social media outlets, I remembered Marshall McLuhan’s famous quote from my college days: “The medium is the message.” He meant something about the medium influencing, and thus becoming part of, how the message is perceived. It kinda confused me then, just as I realized after the Q&A session that there is a lot of confusion about the ever-changing online media called “social.” Some retailers remained puzzled as to why anyone would be interested in what moms say about their families. One reason they should care is because many of these messages are influencing buying decisions and helping to build brands.

Since every baby is unique with his or her own special shape, look and needs, it makes sense to select just the right pacifier rather than a one-for-all type. Show shoppers the clever designs from Difrax, a three-stage pacifier system that caters to the needs a child’s developmental stages. Difrax pacifiers have an underlying concept: a butterfly shape proven to prevent baby’s nose from being obstructed. A trusted European brand, Difrax has won numerous awards for superior baby products, designed to make the first few years of a child’s life as comfortable as possible while offering superior parental convenience.

You may have been offered a penny for your thoughts, but what would you say to someone who is willing to plunk down a cool $15,000 for them? When they feel how soft it is, Pima cotton will definitely be the fabric of your customers’ lives. During a trip to Peru, designer Elia Gressin-Zapata realized how amazing Pima cotton was and wanted to share it with her friends in France, so she created Melopima. Grown, harvested and sorted by hand by small producers in northen Peru, Pima cotton is so rare and silky it’s called “Silk of South America” and Elia made it a point to have production in Lima, Peru. The cotton is free of chemicals and GMOs and is used by leading brands across the world because of its soothing texture and purity.
