Knowledge is the new gold standard. In a market place cluttered with countless competitors vying for a finite amount of sales, you need to be innovative to have your business stand out. To do so, you’ll want to understand how and what can be done to rise above the competition. Lack of time, money or understanding are among the most common reasons companies forgo market research. Without breaking the bank, companies can conduct market research activities gaining insights from key stakeholders such as customers or retailers.

The Giggle Guide® asked 26 moms “Are there certain types of children’s products you’re willing to pay a premium for?” When it comes to the welfare of their children, it is not surprising that most moms will invest more on products that ensure their kids’ health, safety, comfort and education. Quality and durability are also worth a premium. It is interesting that there is one product category in particular moms don’t want to skimp on — what do you think that is?

“Mompreneur” is a distinguished title often used to describe working business mothers, especially in the children’s industry. “Invented by a Mom” is an endorsing badge of honor for new product introductions. For many decades, moms have provided an energetic lifeblood to the juvenile products industry and have been the brains behind countless innovative and practical new products. Today, The Giggle Guide® highlights American-made products from women-owned and operated companies including Bebe Bella Designs, Hand Picked Pumpkin, Prince Lionheart and Buchmann’s Toymaker Shop.

Is your business ‘Social’ enough?

7 W New York Winter Gift and Home Textiles Market Week was a great kick off to the New Year, with attendance up 25% and all signs pointing to a prosperous 2010. The success of the first ever NYC Baby & Kids Fair was yet another indicator of good business ahead. The two shows attracted a varied and notably enthusiastic group of attendees who checked out the trove of new and cutting edge wares in a variety of categories. In contrast to the city’s winter chill, inside 7 W, a feeling of spring was in the air.

i attended the first 7 W NYC Baby & Kids Fair earlier this week. I have been to so many trade shows over the past 30 years, but I have never attended a children’s trade event that offered as many perks to both buyers and exhibitors. Congratulations to the 7 W sales and management team, as well as the entire staff of the building, for hosting a successful and first-class premier event.

The NYC Baby and Kids Fair at 7 W New York runs Jan 30th - Feb 1st. The 11th floor will be filled with everything under the sun for children, including gifts, apparel, bedding, furnishings, room decor, health care, bath aids and toys. The 7 W New York Gift & Home Textiles Market and New York International Gift Fair are also taking place, so NYC is the place to be for buyers who want to cash in on the gift market. Here’s a preview of a few of the exciting exhibitors that will be at the 7 W NYC Baby and Kids Fair, including Stonz Wear, mimijumi, First Toddle and JudiZuzu.

The Consumer Electronics Show was just held in Las Vegas, and sometimes you can get a feel for the economy and markets in general from this show, as it is the first big tradeshow of the year.

GOOD NEWS! Attendance was up at the CES over 2009. This bodes well for the economy, as it may just be that consumers are finally starting to feel a little more positive.
