KidShow - Las Vegas, Nevada (8/31/09 - 9/2/09)

Denise Raeside, KidShow Manager, says in her welcome letter, “Buyers are buying albeit carefully, but they are buying and that is a good sign.” Energy, and positive hopes for Spring 2010 motivated buyers shopping over 300 brands at the KidShow’s opening day. Buyer traffic was strong, and many exhibitors were very upbeat about the number and volume of orders written. Not just looky-loos here! Famous children’s brands, as well as new brands, were busy meeting, greeting and doing business!

ABC has been the alpha-buzz at children’s apparel and gift shows over the last few years. There is interest, anticipation and a little mystery among children’s apparel manufacturers about the ABC Kids Expo, September 13 – 16 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. (http://www.theabcshow.com) I get asked more questions about the ABC Show than any other. Since JPMA discontinued its trade show a couple years ago, the ABC Kids Expo is currently the only national trade event designed especially for the juvenile products industry.

Rebecca Finell, founder of Boon, shares her “Road to Success” with The Giggle Guide®. Editorial Director David Gaunt recalls, “I remember very well the impact her student design, The Frog Pod made at the JPMA show several years ago. I met her among a group of competitive student designers, and by the next show she was a successful corporate executive, building one of the most exciting new children’s brands in years. I’ve seen a lot, having attended juvenile product shows since 1979, and Boon has been one of the best, and most well-deserved success stories. She understood function and design, plus the importance of brand image.” Her story is a great example of the possibilities of staying true to one’s business vision and being willing to take the risks necessary to succeed.

New and seasoned moms alike struggle with the demands of establishing and sustaining breastfeeding. While all moms must learn to adapt to breastfeeding, working moms are confronted with unique challenges. The market has expanded with products designed to tackle each individual challenge. The Giggle Guide™ spotlights some innovative products designed with key components to help working moms establish and maintain a fulfilling breastfeeding experience. Designed with comfort, ease, and practicality in mind, these products make nursing for career moms endlessly more enjoyable and realistic.

I came across a rather interesting article called “Battling Baby Baldness”. I was very intrigued to say the least. Apparently many babies who are too young to stand/sit on their own suffer from a small bald spot on the back of their head due to laying down all of the time.

Newnan mom Victoria Walton actually did, after her perfectly healthy baby girl, Amira, started losing a patch of delicate hair on the back of her head.

This is one of my favorite times of year. It’s warm, beautiful and green outside and instead of going Back-to-School, I start Part II of my bi-annual trade show circuit. Current count: 2 down, 6 to go.

Trade show season is in my top 3 “Things I Love about my Job.” It starts with unpacking box after box of Spring 2010 samples and continues with meeting new clients, networking with colleagues and visiting beautiful cities all over the US. It’s crazy, it’s busy and I occasionally feel like I’ll never “get it all done” by October 31st but… I’m happily addicted to this time of year. We can always sleep in November, right?

Each year, Productivity PR, Inc. has the honor and privilege to represent several exhibitors at the ABC Kids Expo.

With August fast approaching us, you start to think, “Where did July go?” Or more so, “Where did summer go?” We tend to be so wrapped up in work, family, our children’s events and finding time for ourselves in the mix of it all that time flies by us. But there is still plenty of time left in August to get in fun, cheap activities you haven’t done yet this summer while still enjoying the sun and warm weather.

The Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market® - Atlanta, Georgia (7/8/09 - 7/15/09)

The Giggle Guide’s Editor and Co-Founder Leesa Valentino attended the recent Gift Show at AmericasMart in Atlanta, Georgia. She discovered so many peachy new products. Many of the showrooms and buyers she met were upbeat and excited about the current buying season. There was a lot more than traditional gifts on display. Since retailers keep hearing that “gifts are still selling strong,” they are seeing more potential in non-traditional gift categories that can be marketed for gift-giving, from apparel and fashion accessories through anything for baby, traditional or collectible. The South was certainly charmin’ buyers with new opportunities. Here’s Part 1 of The Giggle Guide’s hunt for “must-buys” in Atlanta showrooms…

A few weeks ago I wrote about key factors that influence why sales reps choose to represent your brand.

Those factors include:
• Good marketing; Branding
• Exclusivity of product
• Appropriate price points
• Focus
• “It” factor

Those points focus on your product. Some other key points that influence why a rep might work with you, or might continue to work with you, focus on, well… you.

The Rep Relationship

How did diaper rash lead to the creation of BabyLegs? The Giggle Guide’s™ second story in its “Road To Success” series takes a look at Nicole Donnelly as she went from the slopes to the boardroom and gained international recognition for her brand of baby leggings. The award-winning collection of BabyLegs are now popular for babies and tweens. They are as fun and fashionable as they are warm and crazily cozy. Nicole’s success story gives us hope. Who can make their dreams come true with the next great idea?
