When it comes to sharing from the heart, a hand-written note beats email every time. It establishes that the writer feels strongly enough about you to set aside time to put thoughts into words, etching them onto a blank page with endless possibilities. Stacey Valle and Gina Stock, co-founders of Buzzable, LLC, understand how deep the written word speaks to the heart. Their fillable Buzzable Baby Book is the perfect way to provide friends, families, and loved ones the chance to express themselves on that most important of occasions: the baby shower.

NY Now - New York City, New York (2/1/14 - 2/6/14)

NY NOW™, the Market for Home + Lifestyle (formerly NYIGF®) made BizBash’s “New York’s Top 100” list for 2014 — little wonder, considering the strong impact the show has had. The show attracted over 30,000 attendees from more than 80 countries. The February show ran from the 1st through the 6th at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Not all companies with great products took home awards, but both new and veteran retailers did show a stellar uptick in orders. Companies like Anaïs & I, Scentco Inc., EFL Sales (Fiona Walker England and Albetta), and Calisson Inc drew a lot of attention.

Being on-trend and in style are more than just adjectives decorating the “About Us” page: these words form the foundation of successful children’s businesses. Rapidly changing attitudes and tastes mean that companies need to be innovators. Which suits Florian Berger’s Donkey Products just fine, as the company is “always ahead of the curve – always on the hunt for the new and the different.” The German company is known for developing unique pieces that surprise and delight. As a family business, there is a strong focus on fostering the creativity in design that captures the imagination.

Tiffany Dekel and Laura Burch both have impressive resumes. Tiffany has a background in clothing design and launched three successful online agencies; Laura is an illustrator and art educator at a major university. While they’re both proud of their accomplishments, Dekel and Burch hold a special place in their hearts for handmade crafts, and they want to make the art fun and accessible for more people. In 2012 they launched lullubee, a company that takes a unique approach to crafts and crafting supplies.

American toymakers and clothing designers may appreciate tradition, but they also love innovation. They can integrate the best of old and new to produce products that are unique and functional. 3 Marthas, Two Bros Bows, Papersalt, and The Beaufort Bonnet Company are all very different enterprises. A clothing company reaching its silver anniversary, a business that makes a rugged outdoor sport safe and fun, a publisher that helps to inspire family values, and a designer who recreates novelties from the past. Each one embodies the American spirit in its own way and makes us proud.

How many milestones do babies reach in the first twelve months? How cute is their baby belly when they walk, talk, eat, roll over, or laugh? Sticky Bellies, a memory-making line of re-positionable stickers, helps parents mark each month with their child photographed in a one-piece or shirt designating their age in months. Sticky Bellies really does begin at the beginning though, with stickers in weekly increments for expecting moms.

Often, when a company does good deeds or creates life-enhancing products, they benefit by getting increased media attention and positive word of mouth. It’s Business 101; when customers feel good about their experience with a company, they’re likely to buy from that company again and to recommend it to others. It also helps if your products are interesting and unique. Seeds of Happiness and Peace Passion Positivity are two companies that are getting plenty of good buzz right now.

Brea, California-based Child to Cherish was founded by designer Patrice Lowe in 1987 who introduced the industry’s very first child’s handprint kit in a tin. Shropshire-based Funky Feet Fashions Ltd. combines the nostalgic charm of England with all that’s delightful for children. Since all of the company’s products are handcrafted in the United Kingdom, only high-quality designs roll out of the doors. While the company produces clothing, accessories, and other items, it is tops with bottoms — kids’ footwear, that is. FFF footwear is non-slip and designed especially for little feet. Demand for the footwear has been strong, causing the company to bolster its UK team. With phenomenal customer response, it’s easy to see why the company is expanding its footwear designs.

Michael Musolino, CEO of Make Good Choices, and his team are all about helping children develop sound decision-making skills. “We are doing our very best to make this world a better place, one good choice at a time.” This philosophy has opened up doors for the company’s message: its support of fundraising efforts has resulted in a strong relationship between many community organizations and Make Good Choices. The company’s logo has appeared on everything from key chains and wristbands to hoodies and hand sanitizers.

The ABC Kids Expo returns to Las Vegas October 15-18 and that has made a lot of people smile. I know that I always have a good time at ABC, and am looking forward to some laughs together with my explorations for new juvenile products. Before the show begins, I wanted to find out what makes some of the exhibitors laugh, and how they plan to generate big smiles from buyers. I was particularly pleased to hear that most of the manufacturers I asked said that their children, spouses or family members are what makes them laugh the most. I agree!
